We are offering at least 2PhD scholarships in the field of chemical engineering/materials sciences at theUniversity of Queensland (UQ), based in Brisbane, Australia.



The University ofQueensland (UQ) is a public research university located primarily in Brisbane,the capital city of the Australian state of Queensland. Founded in 1909 by theQueensland parliament, UQ is one of the six sandstone universities, an informaldesignation of the oldest university in Australia. UQ is ranked second (TimesHigher Education, ARWU and ERA) in Australia and number 36 in the world. TheUniversity of Queensland is a founding member of edX, Australia's leading Groupof Eight and the international research-intensive Association of Pacific RimUniversities.



For each successfulapplicant, we will recommend you for the following scholarships:


University Scholarships:

1.   The scholarship fully covers the university fees andresearch expenses, and provides additional allowance to cover living costs forup to 3-4 years:

·        Living allowance: $28,854 per annum tax free(2022 rate)

·        Conference allowance: AUD$ 6,000 during PhD.

2.    Inaddition, the China Scholarship Council's CSC scholarship can be applied for,easier: refer tohttps://scholarships.uq.edu.au/csc



Interested candidatesshould email their updated CV and a brief description of their interests. Ourresearch is multi-disciplinary (with a focus on the fabrication,characterization, and device aspects of materials in the following;) (1)sustainable electrochemical energy storage technologies (our current focus ison sodium metal batteries). (2) photocatalytic and electrocatalytic conversionof carbon dioxide to fuels, and (3) advanced fibrous materials based on 2Dmaterials for flexible energy storage, photocatalytic and electrocatalyticconversion, water splitting and water desalination.


Selection criteria:

1.   CGPA of MSc, MEng, BEng or BSc (ChemicalEngineering/Material Engineering/ Chemistry/Textiles): 3.5/4 and above or similar scale

2.   Strong interest in research

3.   Strong analytical and writing skills

4.   Ability to work independently

5.   English language proficiency 申请CSC的同学可参照CSC规定


Note: The prospective students must possess similar area of interest. Candidates with an unconventional track record (e.g., cross or multi-disciplinary research record) and minorities in STEM (e.g., females, blacks, LGBTIQA+, etc) are strongly encouraged to apply. Also, you will be working with young and energetic supervisor, who is fresh in his career and able to offer you a hand with laboratory experience.

关于导师:

Dr Mike Tebyetekerwa is currently a research fellow at the University ofQueensland. He completed his PhD in Engineering at The Australian NationalUniversity, Canberra in 2021 with his work focused on developing tools andtechniques for advanced characterization of semiconducting materials (2DMaterials, Perovskites, and Silicon) and their devices. Mainly for understanding their underlying performance for energy technologies working with Prof Daniel Macdonald, Dr Hieu T. Nguyen, Prof Zongyou Yin, and Prof Yuerui (Larry)Lu. Before that, he obtained his Masters in Materials Processing Engineering(CGPA 91.6/100) from Donghua University, Shanghai-China in 2018 with his thesisfocused on fibrous materials for flexible energy storage applications underco-supervision of Prof. Meifang Zhu (Academician Chinese Academy of Science)and Dr Shengyuan Yang. Mike's current research at UQ is inter andmultidisciplinary and lies in the integration of high-performance materials incontinuous fibers and their performance study with advanced tools, including understanding how these materials can be formed to meet the strict requirementsof the circular and green economy in high-performance energy devices. Mostcurrent projects are related to energy storage in batteries. Mike has authoredresearch articles published in reputable scientific journals including:Science, Energy and Environmental Science, Advanced Materials, Advanced EnergyMaterials, Advanced Functional Materials, ACS Nano, Energy Storage Materials,Matter, Cell Reports Physical Science, Applied Catalysis B: Environmental, andmany more others.
