The development of technology has brought great change to our society, since human beings came to birth hundreds of thousands of years ago. From the hand period to the mechanic period, and then to the information time, the every innovation of technology has changed he social circumstances, and the accumulation of knowledge applied to life has enlightened men and women. However, although the progress of technology has influenced the social customs and ethics, they are not determined by its progress.

Technology has changed our lives profoundly in history, and the prosperity and thrive on the modern civilization cannot be separated from the contribution of technology. In agriculture, without the introduction of the mechanization and various technologies to promote the production of produce, the burdens of the struggle for survival were not lessened. Thus, there would be hardly so much time to enjoy life. In industry, without so many technological innovations, for example, steam engine, which inaugurated the industrial revolution, people would not be freed from much burdensome labor, even to say have leisure time to play golf or watch football games. All these changes are benefited from technology and to some extent change the way of people's life, that is, social customs gradually change by the way.

Furthermore, technology has also influenced the traditions of the society in some sense. For instance, before the 20th century, women are thought to stay at home, nurture children and care for the elders, and this assumption is so well accepted by the people that no tentative attempts are tried to change it. But technology made such thinking change possible. After the industrial revolution, the unreasonable conviction was completely changed. Women are employed by many factories, government companies, and the role they played in the society is becoming more and more important.

On the other hand, the social ethics are challenged by the new appearance of technology, say, the cloning, euthanasia, and the internet victim and so on. As is commonly believed that the cycle of one's life is the nature of nature, but the euthanasia will break up the laws of the nature. However, some people think that to live or to die, a man in a democratic country has the right to choose. The controversy goes on, and nobody knows of the result, to respect the nature or to protect the right of a social man, but it is certain that technology gives us the opportunity to doubt.

However, the influence on the social customs and ethic does not mean that technology determines them. The existence of human being is based on some basic social customs and ethics, such as dignity, respect each other, sincerity, integrity, honesty and so forth. These are tested right and basic in history and different peoples in the world, so that we should confirm to them. As a result, the function of the technology should be restricted to guarantee that the basic system of social customs and ethics is not destroyed.

In short, technology has made a great many contributions to the progress of human, and the benefits it takes are immeasurable. However, we should use the technology correctly and ensure the development on the right way. Social customs and ethics and technologies affect each other, and they promote each other.

Technologies, as the most influential factor in our life, have determined most of social customs and ethics in our lines. The developing world is being changed by technologies everyday, our thought, as well as our action is also being changed by it. In all ages, people's social customs and ethics are greatly influenced by technologies of the time. The different level of technologies in every age makes the living habit dissimilar in that age.

The influence of technologies on social customs and ethics present extremely intensity in modern times. With development of technology at high speed, our lives are connection with it widely. Technology has been a part of our lives, we probably won't live without it. Our thought, our habits, our way to study or work, all of these have the shadow of technology. We have been influenced with technology so much that we ignore the change of social customs and ethics. For instance, the most significant way of communication in contemporary life is Internet, which is far faster and more easily than fore passed communication. The internet inflects our lives everywhere, the result of its expansion in society also arose the involution of social customs and ethics. Making friends in internet alters our old mind of that. We can rave out our all emotion to friends in internet without unnecessary care. Different from past, our friends should be the person around us, at least the person we have seen, E-friends can be anyone we trust in, he/she may live far from us and we have never seen he/her before. The internet technology effects this old social customs and ethics about making friends.

Some ingrained social customs and ethics can't be and won't be changed, no matter how develops the technology. Moral bottom line decides that not all customs and ethics will change with the evolution of technology. For example, people's sense of identity about crime changes litter over thousand of years. There is, has been, and will always be the fact that the people's attitude to crime is hostility and abhorrent. The form of crime changes as the result of progress of technology, however, the technology is not the only factor to determine social customs and ethics. Get to the root of the matter, the faith people defend won't change, no matter what social environment alter.

What technology influences is not only customs but also every place in our lives. Technology is the reason why people own more effective life today, and technology decides the direction of future to some degree. However, the fast step of technology make us less time with our family, family love is the foundation of social stability. The beginning of all social customs and ethics is family, so we should not focus too much on technology. If we seek the progress of technology blindly, we may lose ourselves in the society of the crosscurrent. The time we spend with our family assist our society stable.

Overall, our social customs and ethics are partial decided by technology. Technology and its development influence social stability to some degree. In modern society, we should use technology to assist ourselves instead of confusing.

We can not enjoy the colorful life without TV program. We can not go to travel to far place conveniently without automobile. We can not end serious disease without advanced medical technology. Since technology have make great effect on our daily life, some argues that technology can also influence and even determine social customs and ethics. I general agree that technologies play an important role in social customs and ethics, however, we should avoid an air of self-righteousness.

To begin with, technology has posed and much impact on our social customs as well as ethics, and this situation is not end. In the traditional ethics in European countries, women should stay at home and is responsible for the housework, and at the time women do not share the same right as man. The industrialization completely changed the women's situation. More and more women leave home and enter the labor market, and consequently they become more independed. and strived the men to earn equal right. In this case, The technology leads to the end of unjust human situation in the traditional ethics. Another example is more and more people tend to replace the traditional books by Internet. Before computer and Internet are invented, people have to spend a copious amount of time on looking up information in traditional books. In modern society, the computer and Internet allow people to find information which their hearts desire. Since Internet is a vast ocean of social science and nature science and the information on Internet is updated by literally million of people everyday. we can stay at home and find information with less effort. As we see, the technology greatly changes our custom about searching information.

However, it is too hasty to say that technology has the ability to determine social customs and ethics. It is undeniable fact that many social customs and ethics is unchanged for thousands of years. Festal, a human social custom, remains unchanged regardless advanced technology. In Mid Autumn Day, Chinese people watch moon and enjoy moon cakes no matter where they are. In Thanks Giving Day, Americans come back home and spend time with family members no matter how busy they are. In Valentine's Day, lovers walk alone on the road hands by hands and enjoy the romantic moments no matter who they are. When it comes to ethics, it is obvious that many ethics, including respecting olds, equal of human rights and being responsible for friends and country have existed for many years. In all, generally technology can not always change our social customs and ethics.

In addition, sometimes it is our customs and ethics rather than other factors influences the development of technology. In many countries, clone technology is restricted because of its ethic problem. Is it the process of clone is safe? How to deal with the deformed embryo? What is the consequence if human clone is finally successful? These ethic problems lead to the forbidden of the research on clone area. Another obvious example is the research on atom energy. Although it can be used to produce electricity, many people restricts the research on atom energy since it can bring disaster if it is out of control, for example. to make weapons like atom bomb.

To sum up, for one thing technology influences but not determines social customs and ethics, for another, technology is also influenced by social customs and ethics. Just as the saying goes, technology is good servant but bad master. We should control the technology so that it can bring benefits to not only our life, but also our social customs and ethics.

In retrospect of human history, we find that each improvement of human kind is based on the advancement and development of technology. Technology has changed people's lives significantly, from ancient arts and crafts ear to Industrial Revolution to the information age today. It has greatly influenced social customs, and provoked ethical questions for us to ponder. However, it is still human beings who decide how to make use of technology, either in a good way or bad, not technology itself that can determine social customs and ethics.

Technology has profoundly changed physical conditions of human beings and brought the advancement and prosperity to our society. The invention of the steam engine marked the Industrial Revolution which emancipated hundreds of people from burdensome labor; teli-communication has enabled us to communicate with people in more efficient ways; computers and internet have given people an enormous amount of information. Thanks to the advancement of technology, people have enjoyed much more free time and lives have become more convenient than ever.

Besides the improvement of material life, technology has also influenced social customs to some extent. For example, the Industrial Revolution has changed the notion that women should stay home, cook for the family, and look after children and the elderly. Many women now have taken crucial positions at governmental organizations, or become entrepreneurs. Their role and contribution to the society has become indispensible. Notable examples are Hillary Clinton, who ran for president just last year, and Condoleezza Rice, who worked as Secretary of State in the Bush administration. Technology has change not only women's role in society, but also other social customs. People used to write letters and send telegraphs, but today, with the emergence of internet, an increasing number of people choose the faster and easier way to write emails.

Technology has influenced human's ethical system as well. The new cloning technology which challenged human's ethical standards has provoked heated debates. To "duplicate" a human being contravened and reached the extreme of what can be accepted as ethical norms. Internet, in another case, has also provided media through which criminals imperil people's lives. Nuclear weapons can also make wars more detrimental than times when people fight with their spears.

Admittedly, technologies have influenced social customs and ethics, we should not make the hasty generalization that technologies determine social customs and ethics. It is human beings themselves, based on their cultural, political, and ethical grounds that determine how to make use of technology. Therefore, we should regulate through legislations and ethical norms of how in some cases technology should be used to ensure that it does not serve as weapons that work against the society. Cloning technology can benefit human kind greatly if we use it to clone human organs to treat diseases, or endangered animals to save the species.

In sum, technologies have influenced social customs and ethics in numerous ways, yet it does not determine social customs and ethics as the author claims. We should regulate the use of technology to make sure that it is used in a way that contributes to our society positively.

Custom and ethics, how people live and how one judge things happened, are both impacted by contemporary technology development. The author in this issue claims that technology decides, rather than just influence social custom and ethics. Actually, Some social customs and ethnics are determined when technology affect some so deeply that they have change their life styles.

To begin with, technology has changed the concept of moral through widely spread information to every corner of the society. Take dirty words as an example, it only existed in people who ignore the rules of the society, or, be used when some one abhor some in an extreme anger. However, as media, such as movies and soup opera develops, these words are becoming more and more popular among youth. Today these words are nationwide spoke in schools, parties. Even worse, with the help of Internet, these words have spread all over the world via websites, and widely accepted by teenagers in other countries. Similarly, people has got used to sex problem since the sex, once was recognized as a quite secret conduct of lovers, was in a number of movies sections, tv programs, pictures and flashes which were transferred by rapidly developed media technologies.

To some extent, technology has elicited many improper social conducts indeed. The movies, music, and tv shows, many of which demonstration sex motions, leads to a direct increase of the sex abuse before marriage within American youth. On the other hand, some technologies can prevent crimes amazingly. The monitor system, which was widely equipped in public place, has reduced the criminal rate significantly for it improves the capture ability of the police.

With many things changed by technology innovation, yet some ethics, especially those pleasing ones, are largely inherited from one generation to another, too. In the past days, people usually greeted to each other at Christmas through writing paper-based postcards. It may need sereval days to pass the cards to their destination via traditional post system. But now one would have received an electronic postcard which was sent from his friends only a minute before. In this case technology has preserved the heritage successfully.

Hence, it is not hard to see that technology can determine social custom and ethnics through impacting the traditional view. With its power, many pleasing traditions are inherited as well as many improper behaviors have spread out even more quickly. In a word, technology is a sword which we can use to change the world while to hurt ourselves.
