OFFER选择，港大MFIN 科大MSIM，求前景分析

楼主不才，没能力申FT，申的PT。
港大金融
科大Investment management/financial management(如果选科大，应该会选financial management-security analysis方向)

完全不相关背景，CFA在考，日后想做证券基金分析师/风险管理。
想请问各位大神前辈哥哥姐姐弟弟妹妹帮忙分析分析哪个program对我这个职位目标的未来前景比较好。

目前手里信息：
港大：
学费贵（只有CFA2级以上才豁免课程，但宣讲会上说必须选别的课来满足学分）
学生多（100多号人，家里人说同学多以后资源广。。。）
偏quantative(课程安排上看起来是很多数理内容，甚至教EXCEL用VBA建模，还有专门的数学课。但也有人说这些也只是皮毛，金融类要大量计算的也应该请金融数学之类的人，不会请金融学的人。本屌私以为其实学数学，淘宝一大堆视频可以买来看吧。)
学两年
有HKUST的前辈说HKU的校友网确实广一点儿。而且港大牌子响，无论回国还是怎样。
课程如下：


科大：
学费稍微便宜
学生少（40-50人，尤其PT很多在职的）
感觉课程比较基础，比较宽泛，也许不深入，不知道日后工作是否够用。
学1.5年。（这个很有优势，延长再久学费也不会变。）
本地人心中，科大商学院秒杀全亚洲，这也算是小优势。
课程如下：



申请加了科大MSIM的群，但是群主好像没甩我，难道歧视我PT。。。

也许很多人会说港中科三所都差不多，但因为本屌丝是非相关背景，目标明确，而且年龄不小了，不想留遗憾。还请大家给点意见。非常感谢。

I will disagree, since exemption can only be granted by course in other master, but not professional qualification

P.S. in general, a MSF wont cover CFA III, but only up to II:
1. III is indeed easier than II, at least academically
2. III is indeed kind of more practical, and thus most master won't cover that.



In details:

what I guess is with a CFA II, one can apply for Advanced Standing" ("or possess a relevant professional qualification"), and "No credits will be given for the exempted course and candidates shall be required to take an approved alternative course.".

and if one had a master before, then one can apply for Exemption, "produce evidence, such as transcript and course syllabus" (which is a more strict requirement) and "In such cases, no replacement courses will be required and the tuition fees will be adjusted accordingly.

It is quite obvious that the requirement of Exemption is much stricter than Advanced Standing, and thus it is not reasonable that the more difficult one will reward less....

Can I apply for exemption and/or advanced standing?

according to the website, you are correct, but it seems a bit different from what I was told by a couple of friend, according to the info session.


maybe a bit out of expectation, I am really doubt that the offical website is the wrong one.......it is quite strange that "Exemption", by graduate course, is required to take additional course, but "Advanced Standing", can be by graduate course or prof qualification, is not required to take additional course. This simply doesn't make sense......

所以我覺得樓主是搞不掂數學，但也根本不用搞定之……
所以我也認為樓主當去ust. 不過做風管的話，沒legal沒math background的話，估計做到good position難度頗大……and thus will be better to focus on securities analysis.

大前辈，真是哪里都见得到你啊，您的回答估计吓住LZ了，LZ既然选择了Finance，而不是数学，就不用想做Quant类相关的吧。。。个人理解，大数学，还是非常依赖于自学的吧（不做纯粹理论上研究的数学知识，正常人花一定时间系统的学习应该都能有一定的理解，当然有没有这个时间和毅力就因人而异了）；但像我们这些一般人还是必要有人指点指点（正规教育的课程设置也一般有其合理性），交流交流，不然很难通透，所以私以为某宝还是没有那么靠谱吧~~~~~~~~

no 免修和豁免 indeed.

if you get CFA Level 2 already, you will be "exempted" from the first 4 course, but you still have to make up the same number of required course as others by choosing more advanced electives.


Kind of good policy in sense that one wont have to repeat things that can be learnt and proofed by CFA, and learning more advanced Topics.

given "大学和第一个硕是文科类", one is very very unlikely to handle the quantitative stuffs.
VBA is just a joke if one is on the quantitative side.
at the end, HKU MFin is not really fully a MFE, and it is not really quantitative enough for a quantitative role.

given "如果选科大，应该会选financial management-security analysis方向", it is quite clear that OP is more on the security analysis side, i.e. the HKUST one is a better one for that.

P.S.
"本屌私以为其实学数学" <--- that's so true, no wonder "本屌"......
"淘宝一大堆视频可以买来看吧。" <----- just do it? mathematics is indeed the subject that is one of the most difficult to be self-learnt.
"高中理科类" <--- and thus? so what? ........when you compare with mathematics in senior bachelor Level, those in 高中 is really like.......um........very very fundamental.
