The reading concentrates on the issue that ehanol could not be a great alternative for gasoline .And the professor's lecture analyzes the similar issue.However,he indicates that ethanol is a great replacement for gasoline,which contradicts what the reading states.And he uses three specific points to back up his idea.

First of all,even though the reading suggests that burning ethanol would release carbon dioxide to the air,which adds to global warming,the professor augues that ehanol fuel actually could help with global warming to some extent.This is because ethanol is made from plants,and the progress of growing plants could conteract the influence that ethanol brings when burning.In details,plants absorb carbon dioxide from air to make nutrition,which removes carbon dioxide from the air.

Moreover,contrary to the statement in the reading that the production of ethanol would decrease the amount of plants as the food source for animals,the professor contends that producing ethanol does not have to reduce animals' food source.This is proved by the fact that ethanol could be produced with a certain plant structure,which mainly is comprosed of plants' cell walls.And these plant parts are never eaten by animals.Therefore the source of food for animals will not be reduced.

Finally,the professor asserts that ethanol could compete with gasoline in terms of price,whereas the author of the reading claims that without subsidies from government,ethanol must be too expensive for consumer to buy.And the professor proves that this claim is indefensible by pointing out that ------ i.e., with more and more people purchasing ethanol, the production of ethanol would increase,which would lead to a decline in its price.According to a study,if the production of ethanol is three times greater than now,its cost could drop by nearly 50 percent.Therefore,in the future,ethanol can compete with gasoline on price.
