103."The study of history has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives."

题目翻译：
研究、学习历史具有其自身的价值仅仅在于它和我们的日常生活相关联。

出现频率：
7月份出现8次，8月份出现1次，总计出现9次。

关键词分析：
虽然这道题目里面没有什么很深奥、容易引起误解的单词，但是把几个主要单词（短语）的确切意思搞清楚了，对于最后的成文还是很有好处的。

（1）history

这里给出了较多的定义，目的在于：很多时候我们一见到“history”这个单词，脑海里马上就会想到曾经出现了哪些伟大的人物，发生了哪些具有重大历史意义的事件，等等。这些当然没错，但是我们不必局限于这个看似很大的定义中，其实“history”也可以意味其他：如历史本身，或历史学，或历史记录，等等。你昨天做的一件小事，也是历史。所有大家在写的时候，也可以从很多方面来写。

（2）relevant

网络上查询 relevant在英文的定义结果：
· having a bearing on or connection with the subject at issue; "the scientist corresponds with colleagues in order to learn about matters relevant to her own research"
· Evidence that helps to prove a point or issue in a case.
· Relevant means to be directly related to whatever is the focus of one’s attention.
· Evidence or information that has enough value to prove something significant to a case.

相关性。

题目分析：
这道题目很简短，只有一句话：The study of history has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives，前后两个分句有一个限定词“only”连接。“only”这个词本身理解起来并没有任何困难，因此要把它放到题目里来进行分析。

这道题目探讨的是关于研究、学习历史的价值所在的问题，那么我们可以沿着这条“价值链”，一级级得向上探讨。而最基本的问题就是：研究、学习历史，是否具有价值？

如果回答“不是”，那么从某种意义上来说，这不但反对题目的说法，而且是对于整个历史研究的全盘否定；既然研究历史本身就没有价值，那么何谈对于我们的日常生活呢？我在这里这样说的意思，并不是说这个角度、立场不可取，这样的文章不可以写；完全可以，只不过可能与大多数人业已接受的东西有比较大的冲突而已。

对于大多数人来说，基本上会回答“是”。那么好，下一个问题：研究历史的价值是什么？这里可能会出现很多大家比较熟悉的答案，譬如：（1）对于历史本身的了解；（2）研究历史可以对现时的活动有所帮助，如美国司法中所采取的“先例”制度，如果以前有类似的案例，那么以后的案例也只要按照以前的惯例来作出判决即可；（3）“以史为鉴”，可以使我们避免犯同样的错误等等。注意在这里就可以参考到前面对于“history”的定义，因为不同的定义可以引导你从不同的角度来看待同一个单词，这样就可能出现很多不同的观点来。

如果前面回答了“研究历史是有价值”的话，那么我们可以继续沿着这个“价值链”往上，来到下一个问题：研究历史的价值是否与我们的日常生活相关？我想在这个问题上，既然前面已经回答了“研究历史是有价值的”，那么它对于我们的日常生活也多少会有关系。在这里，就要注意到题目中的“relevant”这个单词，究竟历史研究具有价值是如何与我们的日常生活联系起来的？如何使得“历史研究”这个看似很大的概念，与我们的“日常生活”这个普遍认为比较小的概念联系到一起？如何体现这个“connection”，就是回答问题的关键所在。

题目看到这里，别忘了我们还漏了一个重要的词，就是前面提到的：only。因此这里可以再引出一个问题：研究历史的价值仅仅局限于它与我们的日常生活相关吗？是否有其他超越这一层面的价值存在？如果回答“局限于”，那么大致上就和题目所持的立场相近；而如果回答“不仅仅局限于”，那么就要适当地举出，还有哪些其他的价值。

对题目的分析大体上就是这些。总而言之，这道题目本身并不深奥，理解起来也并不困难，关键还是看大家能否打开思路，能够有新颖的论点出来。

参考提纲：
首先要明确的一点是，给参考提纲并不等于就不用对题目进行分析了。事实上，只有自己认真分析了题目，才会对题目有更深刻的理解，也就不太会出现“没东西可写”的情况了。在自己分析过题目之后，如果感觉还是没有完全理解，可以看一下参考提纲，看看有什么地方可以学习、借鉴的。

提纲（1）：
In my opinion, history can provide examples, perspectives and insights that are directly or indirectly relevant to contemporary challenges.
A. In some cases, study history is beneficial to us in our daily lives, as Francis Bacon said:“Histories make men wise.” For example, understanding the past can show us inspirational examples of success and the inspiring examples of greater thinkers.
B. Even if history is not directly relevant to our daily lives, it is legitimate to conclude that study history is of no value, the situation and antecedents in the history may be relevant to the challenge the society encounters today. (Studying history can also help us avoid repeating mistakes. The study of past is important because the relevant historical antecedents can help us, as a society, fully appreciate our present challenges.)

提纲（2）：
Position: The study of history has much value beyond benefiting our daily lives.
A. The society as a whole can learn to avoid repeating mistakes by studying the grave mistakes in human history.
B. The study of history can also help us understand our present society.
C. The study of history enables us to predict the future.
