The video camera provides such an accurate and convincing record of contemporary life that it has become a more important form of documentation than written records.

Modern society benefits more and more from the development of the technology. The video camera, as part of the achievements of the modern technology, is even changing people's lifestyle. Nowadays more and more people use video camera to record contemporary life rather than traditional pens and paper. Has it been a more important form of documentation than written records? I think the answer is far from that. As far as I am concerned due to my own observation of life, both forms of recording are indispensable and they should be combined organically in order to achieve more.

First of all, with the development of the technology, the video camera has gradually entered common people's lives. Admittedly, they are changing the lives of people in many aspects. Several years ago, when people took a party and wished to record the happy times which would be the fortune of life, they could only took some pictures at most. However, the video camera could record the whole course of the party and even every word people had said. Thus, people could take a record of life which is more vivid and lifelike. Moreover, thanks to the video camera, one of the greatest legends in 20th century was born and it is called movies. Needless to say, movie takes an important part in people’s lives. People like to watch movies rather than reading a novel just because movies are more lively and convenient to be watched. In this sense, the video camera is superior to written records.

However, the status of the written records is indispensable. The emergence of written records means the beginning of human's civilization. Humans record their history on the paper in the past. Even nowadays written records are also the main manner to record the history. The video camera was limited in this aspect because it could not record all the significant events happening everyday. Furthermore, in terms of getting knowledge, the video camera could not outweigh written records either, because different people have different reading habits which could not be changed no matter how advanced the technology would be.

Finally, I should say, both video camera and written records are important in terms of recording contemporary life and each one should not be overlooked. Without video camera, people could not enjoy this world in a more vivid, lifelike and lively way, then the color of the life would be dim. Without written records, people could not manage recording the contemporary like well either. Thus, we could combine these two manners in an organic way and make maximum use of both of them.

To sum up, due to the above mentioned reasons, which sometimes intertwine to form an organic whole and thus become more persuasive than any one of them, we may safely arrive at the conclusion that video camera and written records each plays their unique function in recording contemporary life and are both important forms of documentation.
