According to the speaker, using images isthe most effective way to exchange an idea or value to large groups of people.Although I agree that the application of images is quite vivid and easy toaccept for most people when sharing an idea, under many circumstances, imagesare not more effective than language because of their own features. Hence,combining the use of language and images is more effective.

Using images is quite effective to share anidea to a large huddle of people as images are always easier to understand forits directviewing. Taking advertisements for example, we see the phenomenonthat ads with images, such as TV ads, are more likely to be accepted and havegreater influences on the masses, which could bring considerable profits, thanthose with nothing more than characters. Ads with images, like TV ads, offersan opportunity for the customers to have a visual impression of the products,which is far more convincing than literal introduction as a saying goes, "tosee is to believe". Watching by customs themselves, they seem to be ableto evaluate the features and functions of the product after which they tend tomake the decision of purchase. People favor images also for another reason thatimages are vivid. For this reason, many outstanding master pieces are made intomovies, which not only animate the world inside the novels and bring directvisual experience to the audience, but also well convey the idea of the originpiece. In addition, in stock markets, diagrams are also widely used to displaythe trend of the market.

Contrary to these advantages, images havesome defect in expressing ideas, such as ambiguity and inaccuracy. To explainthe cause of these flaws, we should in the first place understand that what wewould learn from the images is based on our own experiences and culture. Aspeople are all cultivated in different ways and have their own uniqueexperiences, when given the same image which in itself has not quite clearimplication, they are quite likely to give totally different reflections, whichgive birth to comprehend difference and obstacles to communicate ideas. Forexample, the emblem of a bitten apple may stand for nothing to an old lady,while it means a series of products such as iPod mp3 player and iPhone to ateenager. As the old lady whose only electric appliance is a radio, she doesn'tknow anything about Mac Company, which leads to the comprehend difference tothe teenagers in whose life the products of Mac Company are all around.

In many situations, images are not suitablefor communication. In emergency, there is no sufficient time to prepare images,where language just fits. In a rescue operation, we often see the rescue teamusing radio communication which could efficiently deliver brief messages. Asthe efficiency is a vital factor in a rescue operation, the cost of preparingimages with which to communicate is unendurable. Furthermore, communicationwith images requires sense of sight, which the blind don't possess. For thesepeople, language still works. Some abstract ideological conception, such as courage,faith, wisdom, ennui, sloth, cannot be conveyed through images.

Language is capable of arousing strongemotions. The famous speech “I Have a Dream” addressed by Martin Luther Kingshows the power of words which coruscates the flame of humanity. These movingcharacters demonstrated the determination of people to erase the racialinequality. The speech, which has profound influences on today’s racial equityand view of human rights, is widely regarded as one of the greatest and mostnotable speeches in the river of time. These echoing words could bring upacceptance and identity which could be the source of belief and invigoration,while only by using images same effect could hardly to be realized.

In sum, images and language have their ownfeatures that are mutually different, hence combining them when sharing ideasor values according to these features is the best way of communication.
