TOPIC: ISSUE147 - "Tradition and modernization are incompatible. One must choose between them."
WORDS: 472          TIME: 00:43:57          DATE: 2009-8-30 13:02:01
Are tradition and modernization incompatibale? I totally disagree with the speaker and I believe the two do not necessarily conflict with each other, as dicussed below.
In talking about modernization, what first comes to people's minds is the different lifestyles people have today: automobiles and planes make long term travel more convenient; cell phones and internet connect people all over the world and serve as a good platform for all of us to communicate more freely. Modern men attribute a lot to the scientific development and technological innovations, which liberate them from the repeating and boring work that can be done by machines now. Moreover, there are more and more kinds of entainment provided for modern men. Compared with the traditional lifestyle, people get more assistance from technologies and better informed in this information age.
However, just as they benefit from the modern civilization, people suffer from it at the same time. Few will dispute the fact that the hectic pace of life brings more pressure to modern people. In the classroom, students complain there are too  much to learn if they want to find a expective job after graduation; in the office, the white-collars blame that endless work needs to be done and weekend will be spend sleeping in bed to recover. In addition, the global networks steal people's spare time: even if the effectiveness becomes higher and higher, people have less and less spare time to relax themselves.  Ineviblity, this leads people think of life in the past, when they enjoy a nine-five work day and a nice weekend with families, though the income was lower at the time.
No doubt, the tradional life style seems to be more easier and healthier. Since the productivities are not so advanced, people seldom need to stay up late to finish their work. And without frequent disturbing by phones and emails, they can enjoy more personal freedom, which is the necissity of human life and is deprived by modernization. All these tempt modern men to return to the traditional life. But the question is, does traditional life meet perfectly to people's taste?
The answer is obvious, no. Needless to say, a scant of goods and materials can never meet people's appetite and needs. It is hard for us to imagine life without TV and have to go to bed very early; what's more, personal health care can not be ensured by the poor medical care, and giving birth might be a close call to women. For that matter, traditional life seems not that perfect as peope think.
As a result, tradition and modernization both have their own advantages and disadantages, and instead of choosing between them, one can strike a balance. Modern men who keep a hectic pace of life,  timely return to some traditonal lifestyles, may help to have an easier life.

Modern men (men? 改成life好一点吧,i.e., 现代生活归功于科技的发展) attribute a lot to the scientific development and technological innovations, which liberate them from the repeating (mechanical)and boring work (that can be done by machines now这句觉得可以不要).

No doubt, the tradional life style seems to be (more删掉) easier and healthier. Since the productivities are not so advanced, people seldom need to stay up late to finish their work. And without being frequently disturbed by phones and emails, they can enjoy more personal freedom, which is the necessity of human life and is deprived by modernization. All these tempt modern men to return to the traditional life. But the question is, does traditional life meet perfectly to people's taste?

It is hard for us to imagine life without TV and have to go to bed very early; what's more, personal health care can not be ensured by the poor medical care, and giving birth might be a (close/death) call to women.

Hi, I am Manfred. Do you know me?

的确感觉偏题了,你只说了
1.modern的好处与坏处
2.tradition
