In the reading material, the author shows some doubts that prescribed burning is sound. However, in the lecture, the speacker argues that prescribed burning is a necessary and sound practice that people use fire to fight fire and points out these douts are not valid as following reasons.
First of all, the author cites that peopel do not need prescribed fire to fight wildfire for the sake of a replacing method-- disking and the air pollution produced by prescribed fire. However, the speacker claims prescribed burning is necessary to the recycle of nutriention in soil and thus, beneficial to the environment.
Second, the speacker puts up with the fact that all the  people who participate in the procedure of prescribed burning are trained and they are capable to control the burning, thus prescribed burning is safe, although the author considers prescribed burning is unpredictable and dangerous for a variety of unknowns.
Finally, the author thinks prescribed burning is  unaffordible, but the speacker do not think so. Compared with the lost of the wildfire which is prevented by prescribed burning, the cost of prescribed burning is worthwhile.
In sum, the speacker refutes the opinions in the passage by controverting the author's doubts one by one.
