When it comes to the purpose of working, different people have different answers. For some people, job is just a task to earn them bread. However, others treat it as an entertainment which provides them an opportunity to know more people and a sense of achievement and fulfillment. Personally, I think it is a problem case by case. My reasons are as follows.

According to the salary theory of Keynes, the marginal utility of salary increases at first, when it comes to a certain level utility will decrease. That means poor people, such as some industrial labors or farmers, need money to ensure their basic life. In some cases, they are the only financial source in their family, so instead of having an interesting job, they more likely to choose one with a higher salary. In generally, we human have five requirements which should be satisfied in turn. Thus people whose have a heavy financial burden tend to work for money since their demand in food and living is the first one to be considered.

While on the other hand, meaning of working is totally different to some persons who have never worried about their cost of living. Persons with wealthy parents, a high level education, or some skills which is hard to acquire belong to this group. To take my good friend, Limi, as an example. Her parents take charge of a company which sells toys and some stuff to children. Nevertheless, Limi just would love to be a teacher in a kindergarten since she was a child. Now she really become a teacher and earns 1200 Yuan a month in Beijing, but she is always happy and satisfied with her life. She claims that staying with these children keeps her young and in good mood. To her, salary is just a insignificant factor to concern when choosing a job.

To conclusion, I argue that the importance of salary varies from person to person based on their economic condition. So it’s reasonable to judge purpose of working case by case.
