TOPIC: ISSUE130 - "How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society."

Have we not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society? Though the speaker claims so, I am inclined to disagree with the assertion that we fail to raise children who can help bring about a better society. It is correct that some children we educated nowadays may be not talented persons in the future, but if we supply a comprehensive education, and if we find and lead some genius children, there will be many wise and qualified citizens in future society.

I concede that some children we educated nowadays may be not talented person in the future. Only the education does not ensure every child successful. According to a recent survey conducted at a primary school by the educators, it can be learned that only 35% students who ever graduated from the primary school can luckily get good jobs when they grow up. Many other factors such as genius, chance and assiduous, obstruct individual progress.

However, education is crucial to bring up many wise and qualified citizens. In the first place, a comprehensive education can train all kinds of gifted inhabitants. In our primary school, pupils are required to study a lot of subjects like maths, science, linguistics, art etc. From these classes, students develop their ability and culture their interests. A children psychologist in my university once said (and I paraphrase):"The primary school education influences the child’s choice of his or her profession when entrancing the society. The primary school education also influences the child’s notion and judge to the society in his or her life."

In the second place, finding and leading some genius children is also significant to obtain talented human beings. To illustrate this point clearly, Bernstein is a famous conductor in the world. Perhaps Bernstein does so well because the music is his passion. He became interested in music at the age of 10. By the time he was a teenager, he was encouraged by his parents and teachers to perform in public. Thanks to the people who find and lead Bernstein, we can enjoy his great works such as “West side story” today.

To sum up, from what has been discussed above, we may draw the conclusion that if we supply a comprehensive education, and if we find and lead some genius children, we will raise many wise and qualified citizens. Though the issue is complex, taking into account all the dimensions of the issue discussed in the above analysis, might be the first step out of the dilemma that we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society.
