With the tremendous development of sciences and technologies inthe modern society, an increasing number of people care about how to make theeducation, as the base of development, more effective. There are alwaysdifferent opinions held by different individuals. Should education be speciallydesigned to meet the individual needs and interests of each student?Admittedly, it is more likely that education would be more effective if itcould satisfy the students’ needs and interests. However, whether it isfeasible to satisfy each student’s needs and interests becomes a problem.Furthermore, effective education would not be achieved if people only focus onmeeting needs and interests of students, while don’t take some other importantpoints into account.
As a matter of fact, education which is designed to meet theneeds and interests of students, comparing with the one which totally ignoresthe needs and interests of students, should be more effective and get betterconsequences. It is a high-speed developing society, in which individualsshould have at least one special skill to survive. In this sense, gettingspecially designed education, which should satisfy their needs, becomessignificant to the students, who otherwise will not have the motivation tolearn. No wonder that there are more and more special training schools to getindividuals prepared for the future challenges in their careers. In addition, satisfying students’ interests is also important, by which can educationattract more students. From a proverb which states that “Interest is the bestteacher”, we can learn the importance of satisfying students’ interests. Studentsare willing to devote more time to what they are interested in.
Nevertheless, although it is sound to satisfy students’ needsand interests, it is impossible to meet the needs and interests for everysingle student, which is simply unrealistic. On the one hand, there arehundreds of thousands of students in the society, while probably there arehundreds of thousands of different needs and interests. How could it possibleto satisfy every one of them? We don’t have enough classrooms, we don’t haveenough teachers, we don’t have enough time, and we don’t have enough money tomake it possible. What’s more, it is not necessary to satisfy every student’sneeds and interests. For instance, how about if a student is just interested inplaying computer games? Should we set up a class to teach him/her how to getbetter scores or go up to higher level? Given that, we should make decisionwhich needs and which interests are worth to follow, instead of blindly tryingto satisfy all of them. On the other hand, young students are too young torealize what they need and what they are really interested in. In this case, unified education should be more effective, providing the basic but essentialknowledge and information for the students to think about this issue.
In addition, effective education is much more than satisfyingstudents’ needs and interesting, which still requires many other aspects, likeprofessional teachers, the cooperation from family and society, and so on. Willa class, which is well designed to satisfy the needs and interests of students, taught by a teacher who cannot explain things clearly and doesn’t haveinteraction with students, still be effective? Will the education, which isonly given from schools, without the help from family and society, still beeffective? The answers should be no.
In sum, even though the education which meets the needs andinterests of students would be more effective than the one ignores the needsand interests of students, we cannot consequently make it possible to satisfyevery student’s needs and interests, while effective education is much morethan just satisfying students’ needs and interests, which should also includemany other important aspects. |
