"In order to improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level, all faculty should be required to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach."

Whether college faculty should work outside academia in the career which is related into their area depends principally on the particular field which the faculty research in. It is generally acknowledged that the primary purpose of modern university education embrace two important aspacts. One is developing the skills and acknowledge required in the labour force such as lawyer and medicine ,while the other one is the ability of thinking and analyzing such as phylosophy. The statement hasn’t found the difference between these two kinds of majors ,so it fails to consider that the policy should differ for different faculty.
For the field specialized in theory research ,the main purpose is finding correct way of thinking and analyzing the development of the subject.So there is no need for the faculty to work outside acdemia in matched work. Moreover ,it is hardly to find the matched work aimed at practical consideration . For example ,a professor researched the medieval history is impossible to engage in related work outside academia.
Except in cases covered by the preceding scentence ,it is sensibal for the faculty to work outside academia in related work.In another word ,for the major mainly aimed in developing the practical value and skill ,and emphasizing the dependence of theory of textbook on practice,such as computer ,electronic power and mechanism,I’m in favor of the statement .Since there are three obvious advantages to the statement. First ,the faculty who participate actively in the relevant profession can make the class more vividly and easier,because of the multitudinous cases brought to students which making the theory system easier to understand .
Secondly,with rich experience in the practical work ,the faculty can provided high quality career guidance to the students who are eager to improve the filed as a career .Since the faculty are in a broader space and a higher level than the nomarl career planning guide.
Thirdly,the practical experience providing a basic for the science researches.What’s more ,only by being correctly applied and constantly developed in practice ,dose the science exhibit great vitality. Since practical work and demands of the social production direct where to go for the science.Moreover work experience can give an impetus to the professor’s idea and verify the theory more completely.What’s the key point,the professor who has various real world experience in his field ,is in a high science position .Take a professor in my university for example .
He is an expert in environmental quality assessment who has taken part in practical work and assessed a lot of places aroud our country for several decades.Because of his rich practical experience ,he became the leading expert in this field .
To sum up.it’s necessary to work outside the academia in the career matched the field for the faculty researched in the field aimed in practical value and skill ,since both faculty and students will benefit a lot from it.

ISSUE48 - "The study of history places too much emphasis on individuals. The most significant events and trends in history were made possible not by the famous few, but by groups of people whose identities have long been forgotten."

The speaker holds the opinion that the masses play the decisive role in major events and stream in history rather than outstanding individual ,so the study needs to focus on the groups of  people rather than the famous few . I disapprove of this point of view . For one thing ,the outstanding few are the best catalyst of history development . For another ,through study about the famous few we can deepen the outlook of life and value of ourselves .
It is generally acknowledged that the related groups are the elemental consistent in the path of history development who follow the correct lines ,principles spread the laboratory achievements or inventions achieved by the key persons . Shakespeare’s principal characters are created in typical real situations created by the masses in that time and spread by them without who it can’t be so popular in the medieval time .
However ,it is the key persons who who lead or guide the critical events ,discover truth and invent new things all of which are the milestones in the history of human being . For example ,Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin , a powerful antibiotic , at the beginning of the 20th century which marked a new epoch in antibiotic treatment .Although the achievement of Fleming based only the development of modern medicine which is the fruit of the joint effort of  all medicine researcher ,without Fleming’s key step it is hard to say when would human being discover the path of antibiotic .
Furthermore ,it is worthwhile to learning from the outstanding few not only for the extraordinarily detailed insight in the life of the people at that time .For example ,the  cherry tree of George Washington tell us how did honesty and determination as a value which is part of being a good person display when a outstanding person was young .In a word ,the historical persons are vividly textbooks  which can teach us how to become a excellent leader ,a successful scientist or artist .
