Does children's socialization determine the destiny of society? Have we learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society? The speaker claims so. However, in my opinion, the speaker over-states both of the two statements. Society's destiny hinges on how children are socialized, but it is not the only factor. And to some extent, we have already mastered some effective measures in raising our children and got a good effect.

Admittedly, children are the future of our society and how children are socialized today do have a crucial influence on the boom of our society. Children learn basic skills, such as self-care, communication, logical thinking, analysis and cooperation with others, from socialization. All these abilities are urgently needed by the development of modern society. We can view it from the cooperative research, environment protection, the public health research and so forth. However, too much emphasis on socialization may be counterproductive to children's psychological development.

Moreover, the destiny of society is not depended only on the socialization of children, but also on many other factors including personal intelligence, individual conviction and also people's believes. To trace the whole river of history, there are many such cases in point that can demonstrate it. Consider Einstein, a genius, whose mass-energy equivalence contributed to invent A-bomb which defeated German in the World War Two. His brilliant minds determined the destiny of society. Chairman Mao changes the destiny of China. His success not comes from the socialization but from his belief of freedom and the firm conviction. China's great writer Lu Xun drops medical science and begins to use his pen to wake up Chinese people to hold together and resist the invader to protect their home. His pen actually changes the destiny of China. His success should not be attributed to the socialization.

As to the speaker's second assertion that we have not yet learned how to raise our children, I can not agree it either. It is true that in the modern society, more and more new knowledge and skills should be taught to children, while we are busy with our work, having little time to concern children. Some of the parents even leave their children home alone, making so many children addicted in television and have less time to play and communicate with peers. More and more children become solitary, lack social compassion and even avoid pressures from competition. It is our duty to develop and cultivate their character and interpersonal skills. So to some extent, we are not prepared to raise children properly. However, viewing from some facts, we do have the capability to raise children, and our children do not disappoint us too. For instance, the baby boomers in America were raised with televisions at home and were regarded to be doted on by their parents. However, today, the generation boomers become mainstay of society. One of their contributions is the expansion of individual freedom. Clinton and Bush, baby boomer presidents, do bring about a better America.

In conclusion, many factors determine the destiny of society and children’s socialization is only one of them, even may not the most important of them. And many facts have illustrated that we have mastered the way to raise our children and they are truly bringing a better future.
