51"Education will be truly effective only when it is specificallydesigned to meet the individual needs and interests of each student."
Time: 44 mins
Words: 521
I strongly agree with the statement’s claim that while education isspecifically designed for individual, it would be the most effective education. It is obvious that not a single kind of fixed education method or content canfit into every single individual.
However,it seems the practicability of this kind of education has been omitted in thestatement.
The statementillustrates an ideal concept of how effective education could be. With therapid development of our society, internationalization has become a mainstreamtrend of our society. Therefore, our society is now pretty much a big saladbowl. Picking up a school in the United States randomly, we can easily havestudents from all over the world with completely different backgrounds.Scientific analysis has proven that different races have their own strength andweakness. While people from western countries are born with nature artisticsenses, eastern races perform much better in their logical reasoning. If aschool with deep diversity offers obligated basic algebra courses, which aimsat teaching students the most simple way of calculating, for fourth gradestudents,
it will be a waste of time forthose eastern students to learn about the techniques that they have alreadymastered. However, if the school does the opposite, complaints from the westernparents about pushing the students too hard will arrive. Only if the schooloffers separated courses in different level according to students’ capabilitycan it achieve the maximized efficiency in teaching.
Apart from theteaching efficiency, truly effective education is not about how much knowledgethe students could master, but how well the students could use their knowledge.By specifically designing the education in order to meet the students’individual need and interest, the education is not only helping the students tomaster the knowledge faster and better, but also helping them to thinkdifferent from others. We can easily notice that most of the Noble Prizewinners, especially those who have important innovations in the area of scienceand technology, are from western countries where education cares more aboutindividuals.
However, whatshould also be reminded is that, even though education will have it maximizedefficiency while it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interest,it is not that pragmatic as it seems. Global population has reached its peakrecently, as a result, an increasing number of people are demanding for education.Meanwhile, our society is also confronted with tremendous political, environmentaland even racial and religious issues. Education cannot share all the resourcesthat the government has. Under these circumstances, the most suitable format ofeducation should be designed according to the mainstream demand while notneglecting the minority.
In sum, when it comes to the issue of trulyeffective education, it is apparent that the most successful education systemwill be the one in which individual needs and interest are considered. Whereasour society cannot put all the efforts just on education, I suggest thateducation should be designed for the common needs of the majority of thestudents while some extra courses should also be offered to fit the needs ofthe minority. |
