丑闻有其存在的重要性，但不谨慎使用就会带来很多问题；

丑闻能够揭露演说家或改革家所无法揭露的某些问题，这种揭露有助于解决社会诟病；

更可怕的是，泛滥的丑闻会使大众麻木，忽略了某些值得关注的丑闻；



While people are talking about the celebrities’ scandals on newspaper, how many of them have ever considered the existential value of scandals seriously? Scandals have played an indispensable role of revealing the negative aspects in our society. However, just like a double-edged sword, scandals also raises many potential problems that deserve our attentions.

As is known to all, a society can never be perfect enough without any flaw, among which, scandals are just part of them being revealed. By means of exposing scandals to the public, numerous uncorrect issues will be terminated. In a degree, revealing scandals helps the society develop in a reasonable direction. For instance, some time ago, it used to be common that
Chinese dairy industry add melamine, a kind of industrial raw materials rather than food additives, to milk for the sake of increasing the protein content, which had been permitted tacitly by some local government officials. It was not until the exposure of the melamine scandals, in which, a few innocent infants died, that such poisonous behaviours have been prevented. Due to that exposures, the government conducted an in-depth examination and promote the food safety situation in China. If not, thousands of Chinese may still be kept unknown about the horrible facts.

Scandals usually related to celebrities and enormous interests, in which, even some government officials may participate, including the melamine scandals mentioned above. While focusing on the macroscopical development of the society, speakers and reformers may rarely notice those ulterior issues. Naturally, such essential but weighty burdens fall on scandals. Nevertheless, necessary as the scandals are, other potential problems would rise in the same time of the widespread of scandals.

Considering the far-reaching implication of scandals, some organisations even take them as a threatening tool for interests. Just like the one told by my uncle: in his villages, the pollution of local rivers have reached to an extremely dangerous phase. However, the local newspaper offices never broadcast such issues. Instead, they told the intendency of broadcasting them to the local government first and then received a hush money to keep silence. In this way, the local newspapers rarely expose scandals of the local government as long as they get enough paid. However, while reading the scandals on the newspaper, how many people would have thought that such scandals might be a result of failed threat?

More seriously, while medias intend to collect as many scandals as possible in order to attract the public eye, readers would gradually get numb with them, letting a few scandals with essential values buried under the large number of insignificant ones. With the monotonous scandals of popstars passing by, who would notice a low-rank official’s scandals with local gangs, which might be the tips of an iceberg.

As a matter of fact, the intrinsic meaning of scandals is to reveal the irrationality of the society so as to correct them. What sounds riduculous is that when the society is flooded with scandals of all kinds, the original functions of them might be replaced by the aim of entertainment and curiosity. Consequently, scandals is not everything and as readers, we should look at them with critical senses, not just for fun or curiosity.
