题目:ISSUE13 - "Many of the world's lesser-known languages are being lost as fewer and fewer people speak them. The governments of countries in which these languages are spoken should act to prevent such languages from becoming extinct."

The speaker asserts that since the lesser-known languages are being lost their speakers, the governments of countries should take action to prevent such languages from becoming extinct. Why are these lesser-languages so important to us? Whether I agree with the claim depends largely on how one defines the essential major points of language.

According to dictionary, Language is a systematic means to communication ideas or feelings, by the use of conventionalize signs, sounds, gestures or marks having understood meanings. If we use language is just for communication, those languages which spoken by large number of population and can understand by more people, take the place of some less-known language is not seems a unacceptable fact. Just as people tend to use English for communicating, when in worldwide occasions. As long as the words can make sense, the sounds can express the feelings, any language can works, so the governments do not need to prevent the less-known language.

However, as I see it, language is not only for communicating, but also for conveying of the distinct ideas and culture. In some dialects, such as Australian aborigine’s original language, include words and symbolizing spiritual and abstract concepts that reflect the particular culture. If these languages extinct in one day, then these traditional cultures will disappear too. Accordingly I tend to agree that government should take action to prevent such language from becoming extinct.

Another reason to support my opinion is dialects are distinguishes from each other by geographical regions. A culture defines itself by its unique traditions, rituals, believes and so on, but especially language. In the psychology basic theoretic, people need this cultural groups for individual identity. Therefore, when people speak the same language all the world, we lost the colorful art, literature, and other cultural artifacts, all of which serve to enrich society.

Admittedly, in today's processing of globalization, especially after the Internet be created, language barriers naturally brings misunderstanding. At the same time the cross cultural communication soaring into a high level, what's more it has adopted English as its default language. Thus, it becomes more difficult for government to preserve a dying language. From personal perspective, the governments should employ strategy that encourage local people keep use their original language in their local region, and set course to teach the dying language in primary school, though
the government could not stop local people communicate with out side world through popular language.

To sum up, in my opinion, government should preserving the dying language, via this strategy we can inherit the honor and enhance our understanding of history. Moreover, government should motivate local people's consciousness to preserve their own language by polarization and education.
