No one could deny the important role sports play in a children’s life. But if we think further about what kind of sports children should play, different people may hold diverse opinions. Some insist that kids should only play sports for fun without any other specific purpose, while others intend to focus more on the rivalrousness of sports. As far as I am concerned, I choose to take the latter’s part(one).
First of all, competition would make sports more interesting and attractive. Besides killing time, most children play sports just for fun. Thus if certain sport seems not so amused, chindren would gradually lose interests in this sport, and fewer of them would like to play it. Some sports, such as football games, are more attractive to kids than others, such as running alone. That’s because football games are full of competitions while running alone seems much more boring. When two groups of chindren play football, all of them just have the same target----goal. Each of the group would try their best to gain a higher score than that of the other group. The process is competitive, even relentless, but rather exciting. No wonder more and more children are captivated by this sport. Just image the opposite situation in which no competition is allowed, a flock of kids running to and fro without any target, as if running marathon. I am afraid few children would like to play football any more. . V& s2 E6 \( c
Further more, children need to develop the sense of competition as early as possible since it is one of the key factors which would contribute to their success in the future. Besides, they also need to learn how to deal with failure, which is one of the possible consequences of competition. Life today gives modern people more and more pressures, and requires that删 people know how to live well under such pressure. Sooner or later, children today would step into the society, and they must be prepared for the cruelty of the true world. That is also why I highly recommend that children be involved in sports filled with competitions at proper time. 5 o$ L9 i6 A: a- t! q2 V
Last but not least, children could learn how to treat others during the competitions. It is significant to let them know that competition and winning are not the only thing they need to pursue, although the result of a contest is really an important factor to assess someone’s performance. For example, in a running race, a boy who was going to be the champion found that his classmate slipped up. He needed to decide quickly whether to go ahead and ignore his classmate or to stop and help him. There is no doubt that during his life time he would keep facing such kind of dilemma. Thus it ls better for children to think about such questions when they are still young.

Admittedly, if the importance of competition is overstated, the by-products would do harm to children too. We need to keep in mind that childhood is one of the best time of a person’s life and shouldn’t be filled with too much pressure. The point I maintain is that besides for fun, children are also suggested to participate in more sports for competitions due to the reasons discussed above.
