In general, the lecture disagrees on the point, supported by the reading, that today, with less literature reading than before; the negative influences on the intellectuality, the culture and literature are obvious.

Firstly, the lecture highlights the less literature can also stimulate intellectual somehow, which totally against the view, that only literature serve as a means of intellectual impulse. For instance, there are a tremendous number of science, history, and politics books displaying their high quality and creativity.

While the reading emphasizes on the dispensability of the classic books for culture level, the lecture tends to maintain the more direct expression of the various forms of culture nowadays, instead of literature. A brilliant songs or an excellent movie would more concentrate on the current concerns than books.

Moreover, the reading stresses the decline of the great works, due to a lack of interested readers. Conversely, the lecture presumes the modern writers to blame. The literature authors are writing too difficultly to be understood in their words. Even readers from earlier ages cannot grasp the meanings.

Therefore, the lecture provides three aspects to refute the viewpoint from the reading passage, strengthening the less literature books does not necessarily to do with the decline on intellect, culture or literature.
