issue11"Many of the world's lesser-known languages are being lost as fewer and fewer people speak them. The governments of countries in which these languages are spoken should act to prevent such languages from becoming extinct."

With the tide of globalization, a host of countries have prospered, however, it has also undermined the nation identity, and the main symptom is the extinction of local language. According to the report of UNESCO, 2500 kinds of languages are faced with extinction. Considering keeping the diversity of cultures, the governments should try their best to prevent such languages from becoming extinct, and it is also important for every single person to raise awareness and take actions.

Fundamentally, the disappearing languages should be protected. Language is the media of culture, it contain basic information about the race who speak it, like the values, the lifestyle and the wisdom. When the language is spoken, it means the culture which rely on it is been broadcasted. If the language has disappeared, then the culture has also extinct. That is to say, in order to make the world dynamic, we need to protect the language first. Critics of this idea may argue that the disappearing of language and cultures is an inevitable result of globalization, and the extinction of languages and cultures is the result of natural selection. i would argue that it is not always true when we apply Darwin’s theory in social life, and that is the reason why our governments still give unemployment benefit to those who have lost their job and never abandon them.
Without the maintenance of the past and keep a
diverse culture, we will also missing ourselves.

And it is also true that government, not other organizations should take the main responsibility to avoid this scenario from happening. Government is an organization that aims at protecting the long term benefits for its people. So it is governments’ duty to make their culture more dynamic and flourish. What’s more, common sense tells us that the government has more influence to the society than other organizations and individuals, which means it is easier for them to deal with it.

While on the other hand, individuals and other organizations should not deny our responsibility to protect the languages from disappearing. For example, the NGOs related to the culture protection can organize some activities to promote the belief of diversity of cultures, and individuals can exert pressure on the government to give more money to this affair. Without the participation of the strength from the whole society, the protection will be hardly accomplished.

To sum up, the disappearing language should be protected in that it is important to maintain the diversity of cultures, and governments of countries in which these languages are spoken should take a main role in it. What’s more, if every one of us has take action, the problem will be easier to overcome.
