Thespeaker’s assertion that “It is a grave mistake to theorize before one has data”has some merits. And I agree with the speaker insofar as certain theories haveto be made based on data. However, the speaker ignores in some other respects,some more things we have to take into account when theorizing something.

It istrue in the aspect of nature science, like mathematics, physics, or even somesocial science, such as economy, we have to depend on data to theorize. Whenhuman launch its spaceship in the space, or send its rocket in the orbit, werealize our space-dream and theory about the universe. All of this can be doneonly to the sufficient data, without it, without knowing how much chances ofour successes , we would not even take into account of the project for itscostly labor work and huge fund. In mathematics, data has taken a more vitalrole in theorizing. As is known to all, mathematics is a subject of data, and aChinese mathematician Jinrun Chen, prove the Goldbach Conjecture through yearscalculating the data. In economy, economists also rely on data to theorize,like looking on the past year’s economical development, the economists cantheorize by analyzing the merits we can learn or drawbacks we can avoid in thenext year. Data plays a crucial role in these respects. It is a grave mistaketo theorize before we have data in these respects.

However,in some other circumstances, we can not get sufficient data forever. Accordingto the speaker’s viewpoint, we could not theorize and solve the problemsforever. While it ignores the positive side of human-being when comes to the pointof solving the problems. The grave problems like crime, poverty, and the warsbetween the countries threatens our lives all the while. If we intend to getenough data. It means we would let them exist all the time. Though the theorywe made can not solve the problems radically, we can improve it, and prevent itfrom developing more gravely. So in this respect, when comes to certainever-lasting problems, people should theorize first with some data, after moredata obtained, people can improve the theory. It is an improve process withdata.

Moreover,in some special realms, data is useless, like in the realm of art orhumanities, original thought is the best. After numerous observations of other’sworks, getting enough data, maybe the original inspiration was lost.

In sum,being provided with enough data, we can theorize, and make outrageousachievement in technology development, but if we only depend on data totheorize, we would miss many important aspects to solve when develop oursociety. To these problems, we should theorize first while improve the theoryall the time.
