For centuries, educators have been keen on finding an optimum way to ensure the efficiency of education. Some of them, like the speaker does, argue that only courses specifically designed to meet every student's need could be truly effective. In my observation, I concede that specially designed courses can be effective yet such program is always flawed and highly impossible to practice. And education effectiveness can be approached by other means.
To begin with, I basically admit that a specially designed educating program have some merits. People are like leaves: they may have a similar appearance yet none of them are exactly the same. Every individual has a unique interest and a diverse pattern to acquire knowledge. For some students, who are appealed by mathematics or physics, subjects like philosophy or geography is usually a headache for them, and vice versa. Some students are sensitive to visual objects thus a well-made TV program may bring them the best experience of learning; while some students are keen on acoustic skills so that listening to teacher would be the most favorable way to study. Moreover, there are also some kids that we my regard as "geeks" , who are so special that they acquire knowledge so fast that they always feel boring in a normal school. In the meanwhile we shouldn't forget about the children who are mentally challenged. All the examples listed above showed that if there were specially made education programs that meet different people's needs, they would gain the most in the process of study.
However, the speaker's contention that education would be effective "only" when it is specially designed is far too extreme. It's basically because the idea of a specific education program for every student is so impractical. It is just like the idea of in order to provide the most effective health care for our citizens so that we need to appoint a doctor to every individual. The source of our society is so limited, therefore the cost of practicing specific education program would be too enormous. Under that circumstance, we should find a way to compromise between the effectiveness of the education and the scarce source of education.
Another reason why the student-oriented educating system shouldn’t be wide applied lies in the demand of the modern society—those who are only have a little capability in a rather minor scale are no longer welcomed by the employers. While the education program only focused on the interests of the students can easily results in an unbalanced knowledge structure. The lack of some basic knowledge in other fields can be fatal in handling some complex problems.
In the final analysis, the educating plan to meet every student’s needs is neither profitable nor practical. Maybe the most we could do is a rough classification by dividing students into science-type and literature-type. Nevertheless, I content that the most effective way of teaching is up to our teachers. If they could heed students of different learning styles and try to balance the progress of their class, the effectiveness of education can also be approached to a great degree.
我要不硬挑出来点东西,似乎。。。所以
Moreover, there are also some kids that we my regard as "geeks" ,黑体字部分是个什么结构?
