今年3月机考,刚刚开始准备,看了一些范文,issue还没动过,今天写了第一篇argument,希望各位G友多提意见!
另,对于issue我一直很没有头绪,不知道如何准备起,也请各位G友不吝赐教!!

题目:ARGUMENT4 - The following was posted on an Internet real estate discussion site.
"Of the two leading real estate firms in our town-Adams Realty and Fitch Realty-Adams is
clearly superior. Adams has 40 real estate agents. In contrast, Fitch has 25, many of whom
work only part-time. Moreover, Adams' revenue last year was twice as high as that of Fitch,
and included home sales that averaged $168,000, compared to Fitch's $144,000. Homes listed
with Adams sell faster as well: ten years ago, I listed my home with Fitch and it took more
than four months to sell; last year, when I sold another home, I listed it with Adams, and
it took only one month. Thus, if you want to sell your home quickly and at a good price,
you should use Adams."

The author suggested that one should use Adams if he/she want to sell his/her home quickly
and at a good price mainly because Adams is superior to Fitch. In order to convince others,
the author also provide three evidences: (1) Adams has more real estate agents than Fitch
does. (2) Adams 's revenue last year was twice as high as that of Fitch. (3) Fitch took the
author four months to sell the home while Adams only took one. It sounds quiet convincing
at the first place, however, none of those evidences can stand scrutiny.

First of all, the author wrongly equates large agents as good agents. It seems to the
author that the more agents the real estate has the better it will be. Nevertheless, the
quality of a company is not dependent on the scale of the company but how well the business
runs. The author also mentioned that many Fitch's employees work only part-time, seemingly
implying that the quality of their work will be affected by the spasm of time they devoted
to their work. However, the quality of work is not only measured by the time that one spend
on his work but by the amount of work that one has done, which means it is the efficiency
rather than working style that real matters.

Secondly, the author mentioned that Adams's last year's revenue is twice as high as that of
Fitch. As we all know, revenue does simple equates profit. Without taking relevant expenses
into consideration, the author cannot conclude that Adams gain more money than Fitch. Even
if Adams's profit is higher than Fitch, there is still no indication that Adams will keep
booming fast in this year. The author need to provide more solid evidence or I will not be
convinced that Adams is more profitable.

Last but not least, the author strongly recommend Adams by usting his/her own experice that
Adams took three less months than Fitch to sell his/her house. However, at least two points
are out of the author's consideration: the author didn't sell the same house at the same
time. These two factors altogher make this comparison meaningless because it may well be
that the quality of the house or the changes of real estate market that lead to the
differences.

In sum, the author didn't provide enough solid evidences to support his/her recommendation.
He/she not only wrongly equates large agents as good agents but also assumes that Adams is
more profitable and will certainly keep profiting in the following years. The author also
ignored the siginificant factors that will influence the time that be taken to sell the
house thus I cannot be convinced by the author's recommendation on the basis of previous
evidences.
