Thanks to the development of science andtechnology, people nowadays could live a better life with the aid of Internet andsatellite. When it comes to the problem whether these contributions by scholarsand researchers were carried out based upon their individual interests or not arousesdissident debates. Admittedly, the importance of a research cannot be figuredout by the ostensible parameters at first glance, however, interests do play anindispensible role in this process.
To begin with, it is, more often than not, impossible to judge the value of a study or research for two reasons. First, atthe very beginning of each work, it remains obscure and uncertain, even theresearchers themselves are confused about the real function of his work, letalone layperson. Consider, a baby, for example, when it just comes to thisworld, how can we predict the contribution it may have to the whole societyafter decades of years. By the same token, it is unfair to evaluate a study atits commencement. Second, many theoretical researches are probably functionedas basis instead of conducing to the society directly. However, theircontribution, without which all newly-development is infeasible, can never be forgotten. That is the way these theories attribute to the society as a whole. For example,Einstein's theory of relativity invites little use to the daily life, however,it serves as the foundation of a myriad of recent research.
To step forward, individual interest is a moreimportant factor for a scientist when they choose their topics. Everyone hastheir own interests, especially in childhood, however, it becomes fewer andfewer with ones' growth, as a sacrifice to the society. The majority of peopleadapt themselves into the needs of life, throwing their “true love” away. Moreover, some people may argue that interests provide no use other thanimpulsion which pushes a person into a rampant condition. Even though thisirrational interest might result in tragedy, the advantages of interests faroutweigh its disadvantages. It is this kind of impulsion that helps thescholars or researchers to stick to and finally fulfill their dreams. Withoutthis impulsion, Nobel may give up his explosion experiment after loss his wifeand children; without this impulsion, Da Vince may cease drawing the eggs afterhis 10th trials; without this impulsion, Copernicus may rather yield to the fallacyof earth-centric cosmology. But they don’t and succeed at last, with theirconviction and passion to their beloved masterpieces.
However, all scholars and researchersshould never be addicted to their work, irrespective of the potential detrimentit may bring out. These days, some scientists are keen on the study of cloningtechnology, which may invite a serious ethnic problem. Besides the interestsand curiosity, many scientists pursue the considerable profit behind thisresearch, in spite of the notorious fame in the wake of. Therefore, not untilhuman being can tackle this inevitable morality difficulty, scientists shouldsuppress their interests and curiosity in control, on behalf of the well-beingof others. Only with the ability to judge just from unjust, a scientist can ascendhimself to a hero, being admired after thousands of years.
To sum up, scholars and researches shouldnever pay too much attention to the actual contribution of their work for itsimpossibility. Besides, what they should hold is their interest on their studyand research, which turns out to be just. |
