The author suggests that society might finally benefit from competition. As for me, however, I will contend that competition is beneficial to society to some extent in that competition can not only improve our life quality but impetus the society progress.
To begin with, competitions of business offer us higher quality and services. The penicillin, a effective antibiotic, which can be produced by few company resulted in a so high price initially that few people can afford. As more and more companies join the field of penicillin production, the price of penicillin begin to decline. Producers who want to keep their products more competitive in the market introduced advanced technology and invested in research for improving the quality and for increasing the yield of product so as to lower the price of their product. That is why penicillin is not expensive nowadays.
Furthermore, science will benefit from the competition between scientists. The Nobel Price was selected annually. The great majority of the research which wined the Nobel Price made a tremendous contribution to the human healthy and progress. Scientists from various countries worked hard every day for it and more and more unknown objects and phenomenon are discovered. Although the selection of Nobel Price can be seen as a competition, it truly improved the improvement of technology indubitably.
Admittedly, only fair competitions conduce to the society, the immoderate emphasize on competition is not only inapposite, but detrimental to the society. As the abuse of exhilarant in the Olympic Game, although only few athletics were involved, it damages the morality of the game, the principle of Olympic as well as the other athletics. Such senseless “competition” will not only break the justice, but damage the healthy of self.
In sum, from what has been discussed above, we may finally draw the conclusion that fair competition is beneficial to individuals and the whole society. It is hard to imagine how a society without competition advanced. But a fair should be come first in the competition which is dispensable for competition which benefits society.
