1.30 Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Governments should spend more money on improving public transportation than on improving accessing internet.

Improving public transportation or accessing internet? Which one deserves more financial support from the government? The debate over this question has never stopped. But for my part, since both the public transportation and the internet are the basic and important facilities for people's lives nowadays, I think the government should equally give its monetary support to both of them.

Firstly, as everybody can see, public transportation plays a so crucial role in the modern society that the improvement of it can absolutely never be ignored. As basic and necessary as other three elements of life (wearing, eating and residence), transportation facilitate many aspects of people's life. For example, for those who still can not afford a personal auto, their going to work everyday depends mainly on bus, taxi or subways; what's more, when we plan to travel far away, most of us would turn to trains, ships and planes. Without public transportation, the social efficiency and productivity would inevitably be hampered, people can not send their stuffs to friends at the other places and we would not travel to any destinations as we want.

Secondly, likewise, as public transportation in the real world, we also need transportation in the virtual space--that is the Internet. Unlike the life in the past, nowadays we can not live without the help of Internet. What do we need to transport with Internet? Bingo! That is information. In our rapid developing society, the value of information has surpassed that of money. The immediacy, reliability and compatibility of the information would not only produce economic value but also influence the trend of the social development. And Internet helps to maintain these three characteristics of information. In our daily life, we can get huge amount of information from Internet such as the weather condition, the news inland and abroad and even the situation of our investment in the stock market, etc. Obviously, Internet has become one part of our life.

In order to improve the quality of our life, government should equally support both the public transportation and the accessing Internet. Due to the importance mentioned above, once stripping these two factors from our life, all the things would definitely plunge into chaos right away.

To sum up, I would lend my strong support to the point of view that government should spend equal money on improving public transportation and accessing Internet.
