I disagree with the speaker. I concede that imagination is important in professions and academic fields. However, knowledge plays a fundamental role in these realms. We cannot ignore the accumulation of knowledge, when working in professions and academic fields.

To begin with, imagination is important in most professions and academic fields. When a research or a program begins, things like the goal, the blueprint, framework and details are necessary. Most of them are done through the imaginations. If we just study knowledge and don’t image, how can we treat these new problems? Imaginations is indispensable to the new discovers and inventions in scientific researches. Without them, science and technology can not develop.

However, we cannot just rely on imagination when working in professions and academic realms, because knowledge plays a fundamental role in these fields. There are several reasons. First, valuable imaginations often come after certain knowledge. That is to say when a scientist is equipped with some kind of knowledge, he may have valuable imaginations. For example, 150 years ago, physical scientists had no idea about atoms. At that time, they no doubt couldn’t image the nuclear bomb and nuclear power plant. This example shows that to get valuable imagination, we need special knowledge. Second, without knowledge, we cannot judge weather our imagination can be attained. For instance, we can image that weather report can be exact by the calculation of computers. However, without the knowledge of computer and mathematics, how can we know this imagination can not be realized recently? Third, knowledge also provides the methods and other details. So, from what has been discussed in this paragraph, we can image that without knowledge imagination is useless.

Since knowledge is also significant, we should also focus on the accumulation of knowledge when working in professions and academic fields. Just as most scientists and graduate students do, one needs to read papers in the realms and understand the relevant knowledge first. Reading papers is the process to accumulate knowledge and experience. Imagination is also called ‘brain-storm’ sometimes, and can be done in different ways. One of them is applying old methods and experience to new researches. For example, we can use existing machines to synthesize new fibers in material science. Although methods are old, the results are new created. This kind of imagination is frequently used by scientists. Others, which are also commonly used, are applying new methods to old researches, and applying new methods to new ones. Combining the knowledge and imagination, we may discover or create new things and treat new problems.

In sum, I don't agree with the speaker. No matter in studies or researches, we should both concentrate on the accumulate knowledge and imagination.

The speaker's statement is not compelling (这里没看明白). Imagination is based on knowledge you have, without knowledge you cannot do anything. And I admit that only have imagination can we get breakthrough in professions and academic.

To begin with, you cannot image without knowledge, in other words, knowledge is premise of imagination. (一下子跳到了一个例子上感觉没有展开的过程。) It is impossible that Newton discover the Newton laws without any knowledge about mechanics. Without former mechanics knowledge Newton would have no means to begin the study of mechanics. If he had no mechanics knowledge, he were in the sea of information because he would not know what information is useful or not. What he can do is just imagination which will have no result. Thus imagination is unrealistic without knowledge.


我也在学习这种简洁的论证过程,也就是每段只提出一个小论点,然后完成一次完整的论证过程,学习了。

In addition, you can do some basic work if you have knowledge, but I believe that few companies will hire a person only can image. (这里感觉这说不是太好) For example, if you are a civil engineering student and work hard in the college, then you can find a job in a company and design some normal building even it is not innovative at all. It is also effective for the academic fields. For example, only students have good foundation of their major can they be a research assistant. On the contrary, if you just have the ability of imagination, what particular thing can you do?  Society does not need the work which is absolutely unrealistic.  Therefore, obtaining knowledge is the premise of obtaining the ability of imagination.

However, only have knowledge cannot bring about great breakthrough. Thousands events in history demonstrate the notion. Without imagination of human, there would never have Wright brother to invent the plane. Because people will be accustomed to walk on the road and consider it is fact we cannot change. However, it is because that human dream to fly and dare to image to fly we can have plane now. Furthermore, breakthrough is a thing should break the convention we similar with. (这个论点没有说明为什么) Thus we cannot have any breakthrough without imagination.

这段要说的是没有imagination就没有突破。Furthermore引导的那句感觉没有用。

To sum up, knowledge is the base of imagination; imagination cannot effect without knowledge. So we cannot assert that imagination is more important that knowledge in professions and academic fields. But imagination is also very important to achieve many things, such as breakthrough in those fields.

字数不是太多。
文章思路有点乱。我个人感觉本文思路是,首先光有知识没有想象不行,光有想象没有知识也不行,只有既有知识又能想象才行。

Issue73: In most professions and academic fields, imagination is more important than knowledge.


Imagination plays a more important role than knowledge in some fields, such as arts. However, knowledge serves as a more important part than imagination in other realms, such as computer science, mathematics. My view can be substantiated by the following discussion.


Without imagination, arts lack vivid vitality. Arts always reflect people's moods, feelings, and thoughts. Perhaps through imaging, we can understand an author's purpose better. As reading a novel, the writer wrote that the heroine and the hero were walking along the beach hand by hand, enjoying the fresh air and blue sea, watching many children playing together. The scene can be immediately comes out in our head by imagination. When hearing Egmont, a symphony composed by Beethoven who is a famous German composer, we can feel the suffering people endured, the hope that the person named Egmont brought to people, and the sad when Egmont was sentenced to death. If we do not have imagination, we cannot sense the feelings that novelists or musicians want to express.


However, in computer science, knowledge is more important than imagination because computer science accents the role of knowledge. Once my computer was broken, so I asked a friend whose major was not CS how to solve the problem, and he talked a lot about what problem he thought to be. But after inviting him to deal with the problem in practice, he can do nothing. So I turned to another friend whose major was computer science, he repaired my computer through using
his knowledge. Therefore, knowledge plays much important role in CS.


Admittedly, knowledge also serves as a more important part in mathematics. For example, when facing a problem or prove a theorem in a multidimensional space, it is hard to solve it through imaging the shape of the space. In order to find the solution, we should use the knowledge we have learned. Due to mathematics requires exactness, imagination cannot provide this kind of property. Hence, imagination is not so important as knowledge.


To sum up, imagination and knowledge both play important part in professions and academic fields. If we use both of them together, then we can know professions and academic realms better.

There is a heat discussion about which is more important in most professions and academic fields, imagination or knowledge? According to my observation, imagination is important to inspire the development of most professions and academic fields. However, we should not ignore the fact that all these imagination is built upon the knowledge, and only the one with sufficient knowledge and the courage of imagining can achieve great accomplishment is his career.

In the first place, it is obvious that imagination is more important in art creativity. Since the works of arts is an extraordinary way for artists to express their emotions, they must be different from the normal works in our society, if not totally different. How can artists create such distinct works? It is easy to find that the artists' imagination plays a significant role. Without imagination, there would be no Picasso's abstract paintings; without imagination, where would be no Mozart's symphony that encourages us to struggle for our own future; without the imagination, there would be Harry Potter who is brave and intelligent. All in all, no matter what the forms of arts are, imagination is important for the creation of masterpieces.

In the second place, when it comes to the scientific realm, there is no denying the fact that imagination can help scientists find new theories and technologies. Over the span of our history, many significant creations are inspired by imagination. It is the huamn's dream of flying to the sky that encourages Brother Wright invent the plane, and what's more, today's spaceship for the space travelling; it is the architects imaginations that impel the human to build up magnificent constructions such as the Pyramid in Old Egypt and the Nest in Beijing in nowadays; it is also the manufactors' imagination that makes so many conceptual cars that are distinct from the cars we use nowadays. From all these examples, we can draw a conclusion that imagination is also an essential element in propelling the advancements of the scientifical and technological realms.

However, when we considering the contributions of imagination to these professions and academic fields, we should keep in mind that knowledge is the basic foundation of those imagination.The relationship between imagination and knowledge is just like the relation between the tree and the root. Knowledge provides the basis of imagination while the imagination represent the beautiful parts of knowledge. Any imagination without knowledge is just daydreams that can lead no achievement. Let's take an example to illustrate this. There used to be some one who wanted to make the perpetual motion machine according to their wonderful dream of providing endless power for human. Nevertheless, without realizeing the energy conservation theory, there is no doubt that they ultimately failed. So from this point of view, the one who wants to bring his imagination to be true must obtain enough knowledge and experience.

To sum up, both imagination and knowledge are important in promoting the development of our society. Imagination is the swings of knowledge while the knowledge is the motivation of imagination. It is the tragedy of our society that one with imagination possesses insufficient knowledge or one with adequate knowledge has no imagination.

评价:这篇文章总体上说不是很好,很散乱,例子没有说服力。我觉得主要的原因就是你把这个范围限定的太小了,就限定在了CS和数学上面,那么你举得例子就很容易被别人反驳,所以就显得没有说服力了。还有很重要的一点是论证太少了。每一部分蜻蜓点水,一带而过,这样不好。
总结:这篇文章没什么思路。例子不是很充分。

The speaker holds that knowledge is not as significant as imagination in most professions and academic fields, I agree insofar as this point. However, without the support of knowledge, advance of technology could not be mentioned. Thus, knowledge should play a equivalent role in these fields.


I admittedly support that imagination is of importance in almost all the aspects of the research and study. Since imagination represents the thoughts of humans without which every creation could not be mentioned, hence it is the imagination that could offer person the creative nature which ultimately would be transformed to the resource of productivity. Above is the procedure that how the imagination would support the study and finally satisfy the human’s life. For instance, In the astronomy field, the sky is the most profound things which is so far away from us that we could not touch. When doing a research, almost everything must be guessed, Thus the imagination should play a dominant role in study it.


However, it is not sufficient enough to create with only imagination. Then imagination should not be too far away from the present to be realized. Since imagination is the prediction for the future, the more distant it will be, the less human would have confidence to accomplish it. Hence, it could be achieved when it is appropriate. Let’s take a look at an example which could best demonstrate this point of view. Utopian is a name for the ideal and perfect society which takes from the book of the book named of the best state of a republic, and of the new island utopia written by Thomas More. It is a kind of society which would not be realized for the community is so ideal that it separates from the realization. Thus it is possible for success when imagination could be based on the present.


In the other hand, without the support of knowledge, imagination would be transform into fantasy which could never be accomplished. Since knowledge just represents present, it is the accumulation of the experiences and technology of predecessors, and the result of the imagination. Thus it is the fundamental factor during carrying out creation. For example, imagination is the most abundant when human is in the period of children. In this stage, everything in children’s mind could be different from each other, and their imagination could be far more from ours. However, could we consider that a child would be a scientist then to create productions to comfort our life? Absolutely not, since children’s imagination is divorced from the knowledge, it is just like the consideration of unknown things. It is completely different from the scientists’ rational and fundamental imagination would could ultimately be transform to a useful invention for human.


In sum, undoubtedly, imagination is the resource of human’ invention, without it, invention should be delayed. However, with it, study of science might not continue. Only if the creation is with the rational imagination which based on the proper knowledge, it would be successful.

我总是觉得你在写这段话和前一段话,应该总的先写一下,然后再分开成两个不同的领域来写。因为你ts说的是 imagination is important to inspire the development of most professions and academic fields。同时我感觉这一段和前一段有很多地方都是论述了相同的内容,是不是应该把两段整合一下,其实我感觉两个方面可以看做一个方面。
这一段从第三句开始举例我感觉例子应该少些。
个人的一点点意见,不知道能有帮助不,你可以参考一下

Napoleon has a well-known remark to the effect that it is the imagination conquers the whole world. Obviously, the speaker also attaches much value on imagination, as he claims that imagination is more important than knowledge in most professions and academic fields. In my opinion, however, imagination and knowledge are equally important that the absence of either of them would severely check social progress.

To begin with, we must admit that imagination has played a key role in many professions. The chain of traditional points cannot constraint the wings of thought. Thanks to rich imaginations of scientific workers, artists and other social members, the development of human beings has seen a giant leap since the moment that history could be recorded. Without imagination, Newton would not have the question of universal gravity in mind, which has laid the foundation of modern cosmology. The theory system will not be formed and this now research realm would not develop with such an incredible speed. In the realm of arts, imagination is regarded as the live source of artists. If there is no creation of new usage of light and color, Monet would not successfully start impressionism, which later becomes one of the dominant schools of painting.

As for the position of knowledge, it is the foundation. Without the support of sufficient knowledge, imagination can just be beautiful bubbles. It is an extremely attractive dream for human beings that we can fly in the sky one day just like birds. This dream has rooted in human minds for thousands of years until one day Wright Brothers invented the first airplane in the world and realized this earnest wish. Just think, if they didn’t master enough knowledge of mechanics and machinery, the result would be different. Therefore, knowledge is the guarantee for us to put our imagination into reality.

In fact, we can’t isolate imagination from mastery of knowledge. The power of imagination gives people more dynamic and energy to be more resourceful and skillful. With hope and aspiration in mind, one will find much more reasons to know everything in connection with the topic and thus so, more easily to be successful. On the other hand, knowledge ensures the birth of rational imagination. As one can grasp more knowledge in certain field, he will find a gate to an unfamiliar but more colorful world. This open door can be the cradle of imagination. If the imagination can testified to be true, the explorer will search for more. Then the same thing repeats. It is just a virtuous circle, which will bring a lot of benefits to the development of whole society in the long run.

Based on the discussion above, we still cannot tell which one is more important between imagination and knowledge. Actually, they are of the same weight to make the whole society be on the track of sound progress. They influence and stimulate each other and improve the social development together. For a better world, we can’t put more emphasis on one and undervalues another. Imagination and knowledge are both indispensable.
