243. The true value of a civilization is reflected in its artistic creations rather than in its scientific accomplishments.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the human society, we are continuously keeping reflecting the true value of civilization by artistic creations and scientific accomplishments as well. From my point of view, both of them are of great importance in the human race.
On one hand, art is indispensible in our life, which can enrich people’s lives and encourage us to overcome difficulties and so forth, and people use such elements of it as paintings, movies, music, novels, poem to express their motion or ideas of everything. In the era of Renaissance, a large number of artists flourished and artistic works emerged. Thus the people of that period found they were filled with something else besides the Noble. While we are born nowadays, we are still able to trace back to the good old days in retrospect of those artistic creations. For instance, Da Vinci created a great fortune such as Last Supper, Mona Lisa, etc., and so did Shakespeare who reflected the true value of civilization in his scripts like Hamlet, The Merchant of Venice, etc. Furthermore, when people encountered difficulties and frustration in their life, music may enable them to get up again. And Beethoven’s Symphony No.5 is an exact example in this case. This piece of work emphasizes that people should have fate in their own hands rather than be controlled by the others. Thus, artistic creations are like a mirror to reflect the true value of a civilization.
On the other hand, it is also obvious that scientific accomplishments are of vital importance in reflecting the true value of a civilization. When the 1G technology was developed in the last century, it enabled people to communicate with each other by mobile telephones. And after the 2G tech had flourished, short messages became popular. And nowadays, the 3rd Generation has come into our daily life and made webcom a reality. Moreover, the Kindle, a kind of e-book which was developed by Amazon, also made us able to purchase and read books online instead of paper-based styles. Therefore, the scientific accomplishments do reflect the true value of a civilization in the society.
To sum up, art may reveal certain inside characteristics of human beings in some abstract way while science is hinting us at the true value in practical ways. And hether artistic creations or scientific accomplishments are reflecting the true value of a civilization should be considered on a case-by-case basis. |
