The absence of choice is a circumstancethat is very, very rare.

As the speaker said, the absence of alternativeis a very rare circumstance. But if we add two premiseswhich are freedom and ration to the choice, the choice will be rare forpeople. Of course, the headway of society will dwindlethe circumstance of rare choice.

Admitally, the absence of choice is veryrare owing to people's innate power which cannot be deprivedand ruined even in some extreme circumstances to have their own alternatives.People can choose where to live, when to work, and choose what roles to play insociety.

Nevertheless, if we consider the choicefrom an angle of freedom and ration which are the kernels of choice, the choicewill become rare suddenly. This is because, first of all, people must beconfined by outer environment. The best evidences are the well-established factsjust as we cannot shout in library because of the regulations and moral valuewhich circumscribe our behaviors, we cannot choose to do something banned underthe framework of laws or else we will be punished. The environment factors alsoencompass these of religion, ideology, and countless others. For instance,women in some Arab countries are prohibited for going out without veils. Insome non-democratic countries, you cannot choose religious beliefs.

Another element which will effect theabsence of choice is the curtness and sensationwith which people do things. Take a look at the ensuing evidence which willeffectively expound this gist. I have a very clever and capable friend who isunder his parents’ anticipation to enroll a distinguished college in order tobring him a good job in future. But accidentally,he made an irrational choice to enter an ordinary college due to the reasonthat his girlfriend had learned there. When he graduated, he found that it ishard for him to find a fob because the bad fame of the college.

Albeit the free and rational choice is veryrare, the headway of society is endeavor to broad the spectrum of choice. Indemocratic countries, the constitution promise that people have power ofchoice. Historically, the abolish of slavery, the discrimination to black andwoman, all of these have broadened the scope of choice due to the process ofsociety. It is facile to find some instances. Women can choose to work outsidethat it is proscribed in ancient time, we can choose to express ourdissatisfactions to government and leaders without fear for being put intoprison, this is not imaginable in past. And even in some countries such asAmerica, the homoerotic has been allowed by the law.

We will have much more choices ascivilization's progress.
