严重严重超时了,现在写文章都是这样,不知道有什么好的解决办法没~
103"The study of history has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives."
I disagree with the assertion made by the speaker. By saying that the study of history has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives, the speaker, in fact, fails to truly understand the connection between history and our daily life. Taking a deep look at this issue, we would find that no matter how far away from our daily life history may seem to be, it can and will place an impact on individuals or the whole society and thus influence our daily life in either a direct or indirect way.
First, studying history is an extremely effective way for an individual to gain useful experience helping in guiding daily behaviors. A typical example involved in would be the benefit of learning great persons’ life. Great persons in history are often people achieved huge success in a particular field meanwhile they also encountered a huge number of difficulties on the way they pursued their dreams. Similarly, in our daily life, we would certainly run into lots of troubles because we all have our own dream to pursue and making it come true is always not an easy stuff. Consequently, learning the life of great persons could help us break down the illusion that these people are significantly different from us by informing that all ones could and would run into troubles, get confused and depressed in their lives. This makes us feel better and offers courage in facing difficulties in our own life.
Additionally, studying history, in a whole sight, benefits our society a lot. Unlike engineers and economics who play much attention on specific issues closely related to our daily life (such as new technology contributing a more efficient way of production or how to solve government’s financial deficit), historians dedicate themselves to form a large picture of all human beings and the whole society which affect each individual’s life in a indirect but significant way.
Learning from what mistakes we made in the pass helps us in introspecting ourselves. By considering why and how these mistakes occurred, we could take a deep look into our society and take measures in the future to avoid the similar kinds of ones. Let’s make a metaphor: if our society is a high-speed train, what historians do is helping us make sure that this train is heading towards the correct direction so that we could arrive at the destination we want. For instance, the Watergate Affair, a famous political scandal happened in 1972, truly place some far-reaching impact and improve the political system. It makes the whole society begin to realize the importance of political leader’s moral standard and pay a high attention on this issue so as to avoid the same situation.
What is more, studying history helps in forming a better and deeper understanding of human nature, that is, what all people around the world share in common. Also, learning history of other countries contribute to appreciation of other’s culture. Both these two benefits would help us bring about a better communication between countries and, consequently, firm the connection between people all around world. As we all know, with the high-speed development of science and technology, people today begin to face increasingly complicated problem like global warming, which not only influence one particular area but the whole planet. This calls for all the countries and people taking action in coming up with an effective solution. Unquestionably, a better communication is extremely essential in bringing about a success cooperation which could contribute to a better life condition of all individuals.
To sum up, I disagree with what the speaker asserts, for he misunderstands the connection between history and our daily life in a narrow sight. As far as I concerned, in every aspect, studying history would benefit our life in either a direct or indirect way. |
