H239.Much of the information that people assume is "factual" actuallyturns out to be inaccurate. Thus, any piece of information referred to as a"fact" should be mistrusted since it may well be proven false in thefuture.
Although much of the information people have believed to be true fora long time can be refuted, there are no sufficient justifications to mistrustany piece of information from any resources. While one should be skeptical totell the truth from the falsehood, apparently, doubting everything indicatesoverdoing the right thing.
Admittedly, even the most conspicuous information, some of which could be considered as commonsense, is likely to be proved false in the future, no matter how apparent itsauthenticity appears. Therefore, we are encouraged to get the audacity todoubt. Just for the reason that there is something that seems as if soself-evident and people are so familiar with, no one thinks there is any needto prove it. So everybody accepts it as a truth. Later when new techniques andtheories are applied, the thing which is believed to be forever factual ispossible to be contradicted.
Severalcenturies ago most believed that the earth was the center of the universe, asit was claimed in the books, which was so axiomatic that people would feel evenoffensive when just thinking about or hearing about something doubting itstruth. Gebini approved that the sun was the center after carrying out a largequantity of data analysis, experiments and observations. However, modernscientific research indicates that even the sun is not the center of theuniverse. It is just a fixed star in the Milky Way Galaxy, and it has slightmovements, not in absolute stasis. So self-explaining as the information mayseem, there are possibilities that it is not axiomatic and it is worthquestioning in searching for the truth.
Inspite of this kind of mistrust-worthy information, much of information we receiveeveryday is true no matter how the world changes, such as the basic moralstandards, the basic mathematics principles, and some basic scientifictheories. Humanity principles which we learn from young childhood haven’tchange much throughout history. For example, we are supposed to respect theseniors and care for the young. We are taught to do the right things and treatothers in a good way while admonished that fighting is wicked. A person canonly live once and life is priceless, which is a forever true rule. The wordsthat everybody is born equal, as is stated in the Declaration of Independence, are unquestionable. The fundamental information like this has been tested bytime, long enough for us to acknowledge its truth and it is unnecessary or evenweird as it may be to try to invalidate it. It doesn’t make sense to mistrustthis kind of information.
Languagecan also be regarded as a kind of information. We learn language in order tocommunicate with other people. It is not proper to question why we should usethis and that to express this certain meaning. It is formal and derived after along history. You can't doubt language, or you are not possible to communicatewith others.
Inmodern world, television, radio, newspaper, magazines and the Internet play an importantrole in spreading information and they make it easier, faster and more convenientfor people to get information they want. They are so powerful that nobody candisregard their influence. Take the Internet for instance. The speed theInternet can spread information, especially news, is amazingly fast and thefrequency webpage updates information is really high, so it is mostlyimpossible to have time and resources to verify the information. In order toget the right information, authoritative resources are to be trusted and thosewhich have good credits can be trusted.
Allin all, it is not a wise act to question all information although we areencouraged to doubt some suspicious information just in order to get all true. Wehave to trust something and some information confirmed by time and trustworthypundits and organizations. |
