Leader is an important role of a group of people, an enterprise, or even a nation. The speaker's view of point is that the ethical and moral standards are the criteria of an effective leader. These standards are of the most important judgments to define a leader's ability and whether he is effective or not. Although this idea is partly reasonable, it still lack of consideration. I tend to disagree with it.

Admittedly, ethical and moral standards are of vital importance to judge a leader. A leader's qualification can be reflected by these standards. A high level of ethical and moral can certainly render a public official work effectively. Especially for a spirit leader, his ethical and moral standards would influence people who believe in him. For example, Martin Luther King is the spirit leader of Africa-America Civil Rights Movement. He has a high level of moral standard He rose the though that black people are the same as white people and they should have the same rights. His thoughts are noble, so that the majority of black people support him. These ethical and moral standards are considered the highest at that time. Therefore Martin Luther King was defined as a Great Spirit leader, whose ethical standard plays a crucial factor in his leadership ability. Thus a high level of ethical and moral standards is an aspect of an effective to some extends.

However, definition of ethical and moral standards is ambiguity, which is varied from different individuals. Everyone has his own unique values. They decide what is important to them and what can be ignored. These multifarious values lead to diverse definition of moral and ethical standards. For instance, in the values and moral standards of some religions, abortion and divorce is not permitted, or even abandoned. They believe these rules reveal the respect of life and spouse. Nevertheless, there are other people and religions accept divorce and abortion. In their concepts, people have the rights to decide their own life. They are able to have their own choice. We can not assert which group of people has the higher standards of ethical and moral. It is traced to their different values. As a result, moral and ethical standards can not be simply defined as right or wrong, high or low.

Finally, there are some types of leaders, whose leadership is defined by their achievements and talents, such as in business fields. Business leaders are always supported because of what they do and how much profits they have made. People judge their abilities by their achievements, their theories and their predicting of the economic develop trends. The ethical and moral standards play only a small part when they are commented. People focus on their contributions to the business rather than their standard of behavior. A good example is Bill Gates, who is a talented businessman. He is rarely cared by his moral standard. What we pay attention is his clairvoyance of the market and his power of execution. Therefore, for these kinds of leaders, ethical and moral standards are not the decisive part of them. They are approved by other kinds of standards.

In conclusion, it is true that ethical and moral standards are of vital importance for an effective leader such as some national heroes. There spirit is based on their moral standard. There are still some other kinds of leader who are judged by their personal achievements, that ethical standards are not the main values of them. At same time, the definition of ethical and moral is different for different kinds of people.
