I agree with that faculty with profession experience relevant to courses they teach is good at instructing students in a more practical way. However, this situation cannot be applied to all subjects such as theoretical physics and astrophysics.

As the saying goes, "practice makes perfect." Although most of faculties in university and college are knowledgeble, it is necessary for teachers to get some profession experience for some practical courses. For example, Fashion Design, which is a very popular subject in young students, needs more experience in relevant professions than design theory. If the teachers of Fashion Design lack of pratice in this field, it is impossible for them to edify their students become fashion designers.

However, this situation is not suited to some theoretical discipline, for which it is even hardly possible to practice. Taking astrophysics as a example, sicentists of this field such as Stephen Hawking, one of the most famous theoretical physicists, who has studied universe for several decades and proposed many famous theories of black holes, do not even have a chance to substantiate many of his theories today. Nevertheless, Hawking and other astrophysicists are still make great contribution for human beings. So, teachers in these fields should focus on their scientific research and share discoveries with students.

In addition, to improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level, the teachers' duty is more than teaching. As the famous germany educator Diesterweg said, which I paraphrase, the essence of the art of instruction is more inspiring and encouraging students than teaching professional skills. What students really need in college is figuring out what they really like and find a way to achieve their dreams.

In a conclusion, the policy that faculty should spend time working in professions could be applied to some pratical subjects. Moerover, to improve the quality of education at the college and university level, the teachers should more care about inspiring students to find what they really like.
