I agree with the argument that through mistakes can there be discovery or progress. But the author utilizes the term "only" which makes the assertion absolute and improper, for the reason that mistakes are not the necessary condition to success; indeed, rather than make mistakes, success is determined by how hard one works, one`s attitude toward the job he or she is doing and, last but not least, there should be the chance that allow one to obtain achievements.

Admittedly, in some circumstances, wrong-doings could act as a stimulation, through which we can find our faults, accumulate experience thus leading to final success. In addition, mistakes would excite our encouragement and our thirst for success in that everyone does not succumb to failure. It is human nature to face the difficulties briefly and beat them successfully. The example of Alexandre Dumas,fil,a famous French writer, is a apposite one to support this argument. He was the illegitimate son of a celebrity, which could be used as a tool to gain notice easily. But he refused to give away his real status, instead, he taken the pains to writing articles. Unfortunately, most of his early productions were withdrawn by the publishing company. However, he never given up, he worked harder toward his own goal. Finally, he stunned the whole Europe by his excellent book The Lady of the Camellies, which made him one of the best novel writers at that time.

However, on the other hand, mistakes are not the only way to success. Although some people fail a handful of times, they never gain their achievements because they go on the wrong road again and again, not, at least for only one time, to look back and think about the reasons of their failure. Another situation is in certain domains, failure is forbidden. Such as, when a doctor operates his or her patient a surgery, one tiny mistakes of his or her work could cause a severe outcome, perhaps resulting in the death of the patient. Another instance is the launching of a rocket which could cause not only the lost of a great deal of money but also the death of the astronauts. Actually, success is not a matter of failure; it is a matter of how one deal with the failure. Only through an active and an optimistic attitude could one overcome the difficulties to get what he or she wanted.

In my perspective, wrong-doings is not a necessary requisite to success. If one could have achievements is decided by the level of one`s sedulity, one`s attitude toward the job he or she is doing and the chances that allow one to obtain achievements. The former two points is precondition, and the last one, chances, is only supplied to people who are well-prepared. We should take a well-known movie star, Sylvester Stallone, as an example. Sylvester Stallone took his self-suited script to recommend himself to all the movie companies in Hollywood, but none of the company showed any interest in his script. Nevertheless, this did not frustrate him. He took another tour toward these companies to sell his script. In the end, one company signed the contract with him and shoot the movie ,Rockey, based on his own script, leading him to a worldwide fame with his starring role in the smash hit Rockey.Were it not be his well-prepared script, he would not obtain the chance even more abnegation were attained.

In a word, success and failure are not opposites; they are both products of the same process.
Mistakes can serve as a catalyst on the way of success if we treated them rightly. However, we should more focus on our own attitude to the work we are doing rather than hope to gain achievements through making mistakes. In this way, there can be discovery or progress without mistakes.
