Artists are those who create their own aesthetic works and critics are another group of people give comments on others' accomplishments. When it comes to the problem that who gives society something of lasting value, there are always a host of different opinions held by different individuals in different fields. Admittedly, it is the artist that creates the exact objects, however, the critic helps to understand and explain these masterpieces to the commons.
To begin with, the artist buries themselvesin the work of creation, generation after generation, leaving their works behind for us to admire. Artists from every parts of the world, like Vincent van Gogh from Dutch, Salvador Dali from Spain and Lu Xun from China, have one ambition in common, trying their best effort to improve their loving causes and the society's value as a whole. When we pay a visit to museums and gaze at those masterpieces, we should express our sincere thanks and praise to those artists who worth the honor. Imagining the world without them, we will be encompassed by iron and steel, lacking beauty and conciliation. Therefore, we cannot forget the contribution of the artist.
In addition, critics also worth the applause because they work as peace pigeons who make the judgment and explanation, bringing those glory works to the commons. Taking "Don Quixote" as an example, when the saga novel was firstly published, it was regarded no more than a farce at all, however, after couples of years, it was recognized as one of the best books, for its attractive plot and adroit use of language. Then I shall ask who made the change? The critic! They figured out how exceptional and important "Don Quixote" is and exposed the marvelous fact to everyone else, thus offering us opportunities to appreciate it. Besides, Eiffel tower, a19th century iron lattice tower located in Paris, endured a similar destiny, demonstrating its value due to the help of the critic. In short, were not discovery of the critic, lots of "shinny stars" would probably lose their luster.
However, even though the critic conduces tothe improvement of the society, it can serve as a double-edged sword, with its negative effect in some occasions. The critic should make judgment on certainworks according to his/her professional knowledge irrespective of personal emotion or prejudice on it. Unfortunately, this do not always apply to the fact. Some critics give the opposite comments in order to obtain their own profits and become the media tool of the government. This happened to MarkTwain, the great American novelist. The critic, under the command of American government abused his works which reflect the realistic poor life in America. The root cause behind this social phenomenon can be traced back to the belief held by every critic. Only with a just and responsible mind, the critic is bound to fulfill this sacred job.
In sum, the artist and the critic all playan inevitable role in improving the value of the society and this importance cannot be easily influenced by a small group of people who corrupt this power. When they work together, we can build a better society. |
