With the rapid development of technology in many fields, our life becomes more and more easy and comfortable. Yet, as we have taken more through technology from nature, we need sacrifice others endowed by nature. Even if some of those lost can be compensated in another way, others are so expensive deals that might lead us to go bankrupt. Whether the technology is beneficial or detrimental is up to how we human make use of it.

Being dispensable in the path of human history, technology is no doubt masterpiece created by human being. We benefit from it in global scale ranging from daily life to culture. A modern example is the rise of communication technology, such as telephone, mobile, Internet, which has lessened barriers to human interaction and, as a result, has helped spawn new subcultures called cyberculture.  The development of transport technology is another one in case, which has increased the human ability to move to a large extent, conquering the space obstacle and also has fostered the travelculture. Therefore, just looking around, it is not that difficult to draw a conclusion that technology is of great importance in our life.

However, not all results of technology turn out to be beneficial. We are left with mounts of electric waste while we are in pursuit of the newest style of telephone, mobile or computer. Though the electric waste recycle process, from which could draw valuable metal like gold, silver and therefore producing considerable profit, has been widely applied, the price is high because the byproduct like lead might cause the environment to be polluted as well as make processing workers to be slowly poisoned, amounting to be slowly killed. Similarly, behind the progress of transport technology is the increasing carbon emissions. While biochar, which is invented for biosequestration or atmospheric carbon capture and storage，shed light on the solutions of reducing the carbon emissions, whether this new technology suffices to solve the more and more severe climate problem with days passing by is still in question. And the failure of solutions to climate change means a lot to human’ future. On the other hand, the culture derived from technology is not all good. Violence and pornographic subjects are transmitted by the communication technology, nourishing the growth of inelegant culture. The prosperity of  Travelculture  also risks natural resources, which might not able to renewable. All in all, we are paying for convenience and comfort gained through technology, and sometimes we might not afford it.

Weighing the advantages and disadvantages seems difficult to draw any conclusion whether the technology is beneficial or detrimental. In fact, the key to this answer is not only about technology itself, but also the manner we human utilize it. Moderate and right using is critical to technology to exert its best but bury its worst facing up to human. For example, as long as we don’t buy new communication or transport utilities only for the advertisement or other non-essential functions and we have a shared moral standard about culture and nature, the detriments related above could be swept out. Thus, we need to recognize that our budget is limited as to pay for the technology, and saving is necessary.

In sum, technology in itself is not right or wrong. Thought the initiative of its invention is right, the aftermath might be bad to some extent. Only through proper recognition that we are responsible for how the technology finally turns out that the technology might be beneficial as the inventors expect looking at the big picture.
