Young people should try different job before they decide which job or career they will do in the long term.
When asked about whether young people should try various jobs before they decide in which job or career they will involve themselves, different people hold different opinions. Confronted by an alarming unemployment rate present day many people envision it a stupid thing to try different jobs. However, as far as I am concerned, trying different jobs before choose one's life long career is beneficial and advisable, and should be advocated.
Admittedly those who never shift from one position to another are more likely to be credited with loyalty, an attribute admired by many employers when they are deciding who to promote. However, when we take into consideration the benefits people could gain from taking various jobs, this minor advantage no longer means that much.
Why should young people try different jobs? Firstly by trying new jobs, young people acquire an opportunity to explore more about their interests and talents. And just as Lee Kaifu, the former CEO of Google China said (and I translate), "only when people are doing something they both like and have a talent in could they maximize their chance for success. How to fulfill this? Try different jobs." This is really a good advice. I will take myself for an example. My major in college was chemical engineering, yet I had no interest in calculating the volume of reactors and were always an average student. It was not until I took a part-time job in the local Museum as a guider did i find I really had a gift in making public speeches, and most importantly, i really enjoy the feeling of being the focus of a crowd of people. Now I am a well-paid and welcomed guide. If I don't try different jobs, today I am more likely to be a engineer, neither happy nor excellent.
Besides, this will give young people a chance to make friends with various people, broadening their horizon, expanding their capacity for tolerance and developing good communication skills, which is critical for one’s future career accomplishment. Such is human nature that we, in pursuit of a sense of security, tend to imprison ourselves in a small and close circle, excluding ideas from people outside our group. City born and city bred, I used to harbor prejudice on rural people. It is by taking various jobs that I finally realize no matter how different we seem to be at first, we are all the same, all equal. My friends all says that I am much more agreeable and mature than before.
Clearly, all the analysis above justifies the conclusion that young people had better try different jobs before they decide what to do in a long term.
