In the reading passage, the writer believes that the products of wood companies in American need not to ecocertified based on three evidences, however, in the lecture, the professor disagree with these evidences and he cast doubt on the topic by using a number of points.

To begin with, according to the passage, American consumers would not value the ecocertification label since they don't trust in advertising claims in general. In contrast, the professor indicates that American consumers don't treat advertisement the same, they distinguish the advertising claims by the companies themselves from the claims by the independent certification agency, and they trust the latter. Thus, the ecocertification label will be useful for the company.

In addition, unlike the writer's opinion that American consumers would choose the uncertified wood as they are cheap, the professor suggests that if the differences between two woods are small enough, such as less than 5%, consumers would choose the ecocertified ones in order to protecting environment.

finally, the writer claims that American wood company sell almost all of their products in the United States, accordingly, they don't have to keep up with the developments in the rest of the world, the professor argues, however, that because American consumers would like to choose the ecocertified wood, if American wood company don't keep pace with the world in the ecocertification, their abroad competitors will crowd into the market, and they will lose the market.
