Every truth can be checked by history. One of history truths is that anticipated problems always serve as the reasons which bring a nation or a dynasty to the end. So the ideas of the issue seem ridiculous, in my opinion, to solve the anticipated problems of future has equal importance of solving immediate problems.
Admittedly, the importance of solving immediate problems cannot be ignored. Paragons, such as when earthquake happens, the government must take measures to help the injured people immediately. If the government takes action slowly, thousands of people who under attack of this disaster maylose their lives; more worse, the government will be condemned by other countries and even lose itspartners.
However, placing undue emphasis to solve immediate problems and neglect anticipated problems may cause problems. Here, I choose acute disease and chronic disease as metaphor to explain the immediate the anticipated problems. It is well know that acute diseases such as influenza are likely be avoided immediately and solved quickly while things are not the same for chronic diseases. People may not place enough attention on those diseases, which seemingly are not obvious at earlier time but likely to contribute to bad results later if leaving them alone.
Lung cancer, for example, one of the chronic diseases, when suffered it at first, the sufferer may not realize, while at the time it appeared obviously, he or she almost suffer death. The only way to escape death isto find it at an early time. In contrast, the anticipated problems have the same characteristic as the chronic diseases. It should be also found in early time, if not, death will come. For instance, Louis 16th, the last king of France, he levied heavy tax on French people in order to solve immediate finance shortage. At first, it seems effective, but after a long time of extorting people, all people cannot bear with it, and then got together to storm the Bastille and finally killed the king.
Both the immediate problems and anticipated problems must be equally treated. As I have discussed above, government would be troubled if inappropriate emphasis on either one of them. But why it seems in today`s society, solving immediate problems are taking more importance to anticipated problems? From my point view, the electing institution is the main cause. The electing system limits every governmental officers' serving time. It is said if they want to re-elect in next term, they must perform well in this term. So, in order to get re-elect, officers are more inclined to solve these immediate problems since they can be easily found and solved, while the long-term problems will be put aside even if the government officers find them since these problems can hardly contribute to their election. For example, when faced with the economic crisis in 2009, many countries manage to address the tough problem through releasing dollars. At the first glance, economic turns over and unemployment rate decreases, it seems the measure achieve success while these countries put aside future inflation. As economists said, the more money released, the higher inflation will emerge in the future, and it will cause problems. But future conditions do not impact nowadays` governmental officers, they trend to go through the immediate economic crisis, and get voted from civil. Inflation, the long term problem, is neglected by officers.
After analysis above, it is obviously that neglecting both immediate problems and anticipated problems of the future are dangerous. Both of them should be treated equally. |
