69"Government should place few, if any, restrictions on scientific research and development"
In this era of dramatic social and technological development bringing radical changes, such as the noticeable improvement of the living quality, to our lives, perhaps no one would deny the importance of scientific research and development. (个人觉得把perhaps去掉更好些) Although every one of us gets profit from the fruit of scientific research and development, squarely saying that government should place restrictions on it as few as possible is not easy to be accepted.
First of all, undoubtedly, it is the non-stop scientific development that brings us about the unprecedented(应为副词unprecedentedly) convenient and comfortable lives. When feeling thirty (应为thirsty) and hot, we only need to open the fridge to get a tin of cool Cola; when feeling cold, we just need to push a button to turn on the air-condition(此为动词,应改为air conditioner) ; when feeling lonely, we simply need to phone(个人觉得phone做动词用于口语居多) our friends for chatting. This way of life is so nice that some of us tend to think that to be a common person(这里是不是应该改为being a common person,可以讨论一下) today is even better than a king in antiquity(antiquity这个词是不是有些大?).
Simply put, scientific research and development brings the benefits which everyone enjoys, in that our government should support it. In addition, creative thinking, which needs a relaxed(修饰物的用relaxing)
policy environment, is essential for successful scientific research. So, our government should not over restrict it so as to give a free land for the scientific creation. For example, in history, religious sometimes suppress the progress of scientific research which conflict with them(them其实可以说的更具体一些), Copernicus is the best illustration. In order to avoid such tragedy happen again, our government should protect the truth-pursuing researches, let alone restrict them.
However, it is so hasty to say that our government should place few restrictions on scientific research and development, because that is a double-edged sword for the whole society. On one hand, despite the myriad advantages as mentioned above, it also brings us some serious problems.
For instance, the chemical factories give rise to environmental pollution(这里可以直接用动词,这样会显得更生动一些,比如the chemical factories damage our increasingly fragile environment), the computer science brings us cyber crime(这个例子可以换成更狠的,如the internet is flooded with numerous violent movies and pornographic stories) and the nuclear physics causes the widespread threat of the world's security. Such areas of scientific research have to be under control of our government, otherwise(这里的otherwise是连词吗?如果是的话后面应是完整的句子) leading to the hopeless situation like very unhealthy live and extreme insecure society.
One the other hand, there are also many problems lie(改为lying) in the scientific research and development itself. As is widely-accepted, research requires experiment, and one successful experiment comes after countless unsuccessful ones, and this, with no doubt, will spend a lot of money. In order to not waste our financial resource, our government have to think about which of them are more worth giving financial support to, thus a restrict on scientific research may not be avoided.
To sum up, scientific research and development can not only brings many advantages, but also causes some grave consequences. In order to solve such tough problems appropriately, our government should put neither too many nor too few restrictions on scientific research and development. And the specific of these restrictions(specific作名词时一般为复数,但多用于形容词,可直接写为specific restrictions) placed by our government should be different to the various research projects.
ADVISE:
文章中的例证还是蛮深刻的,开头结尾也都有照应。但开头最后一句让人中立偏反对题目的(即政府还是应该有管制的),但后面反对段(文章的四五段)是不是有点少了?可以考虑再加一些。
