"How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society."


     I strongly agree that how the children are socialized today plays an significant role in the the destiny of the society, not the unique role, because there are also other factors which have great influence on the development of the society. However, for the claim that we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society, I disagree with it.
     To begin with, admittedly, society's destiny hinges on the how children are socialized today. The ample opportunities for healthy interaction with the peers can make children to achieve the abilities of accustoming a new social environment, the skills of communicating and negotiating with others, and the abilities of regulating and changing the relationships among people in a society, relying on which children are likely to grow to be activists and effective leaders in a society. For example, in ancient China, Liu Pang, King of Han who didn't like reading and farming, even called rascal by his father when he was young, led the army defeated Hsiang Yu, King of Chu, and gave rise to the Western Han Dynasty in 202 B.C.. The reason that he could win the battle was he knew how to communicate with his three generals, Zhnag Liang, Han Xin, Xiao He, and regulate their functions to exert all their strengths. Indeed, children's socialization has significant effect on the development and advancement of society.
     Nonetheless, except for the socialization, there are also many factors influencing the destiny of society, such as moral, will, religious belief, innovation, personality. One who only is well socialized and lacks of other factors will be harmful to the society. During the World War II, the scientists who were elitists in the science filed, serving for the Nazi, developed gas, bacteriums and weapons for Nazi, threatening human existence and peace. Therefore, combination of socialization and other factors will promote better development of human society.   
     The speaker says that we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society, but in my opinion, we have learned how to raise children and they have brought about a better society. In recent years, the great change in our education system is a good example. The reform of education is further carried out, and the promotion of quality education allows students to develop themselves in an all-round way,which improved the students' sense of creation and the ability to deal with actual things. Besides, the pupils in the country go to school for free, releasing parents' burdens. And, there are ample evidences of increasing national cohesiveness. As severe earthquake struck Sichuan, the whole society did their best to help people from Sichuan to fall into a new life. Morever, the 2008 Olympic games was held in Beijing successfully supported by the whole nation.
     In sum, a child with socialization and some other factors-such as good ethical behavior, strong belief, or raw intelligence, will grow up to contribute to a better society. And, our society is stepping into more thriving and prosperous stage.
