To our general knowledge, instruction at the college and university level should enable students to think clearly, to act well in their work, and to appreciate life. Under this circumstance, I believe that the teachers’ working experiences maybe efficiency, however, what's more important is their teaching methods.
Faculties spend time working outside the academic world in appropriate job indeed could take effects and improve their quality, but this just for some of the subjects, since some subjects incline to practice, however some others maybe more on theory. For example, this plan in business courses maybe feasible and effective. As we know the quality of a businessman largely accumulates through long periods' experience. Undoubtedly, professors who work in such relevant jobs would have a significant improvement in their academic research. Nevertheless, to some theoretical subjects such as physics and mathematics, working out side the academic world would have little function. Generally, the job for professors on these subjects is to calculate and summarize of the statistics and then maybe work out an equation which could reflection a certain principle. In this case, such researches are hardly to instantly be applied in any area out of academic world. Accordingly, advising all faculties to work in professions relevant to the courses could not be the best choice. We should find other more efficiency method that would improve the quality of instruction.
To the basis of education, the teaching methods would be a significant factor in improving the instruction quality. At college and university level, students are most likely to learn by themselves rather than be infused with knowledge by teachers. The professors’ instruction largely works as guidance. The responsibility for teachers is to help students retain information and strengthen understanding. In this case, the working experience of teachers would have less effect than the instruction methods. Generally, the teaching method includes explaining, modeling, collaborating, and demonstrating. In order to make students think clear about a certain subject, good skills of explain or use models to illustrate are necessary and efficiency. The instruction of collaborating would pave the way for students’ future work. And by demonstrating their attitude toward life and the world, professors could help students to better know the meaning of life and appreciate life. Thus, how well could a teacher solve problems would be more important. Someone said a good teacher explains, a superior teacher demonstrates and a great teacher inspires, thus improving the teaching method is a wisdom way to promote the quality of instruction.
Furthermore, the feasibility of the suggestion also should be taken into consideration, and maybe it is difficult to take into practice. Contrarily better training on teaching methods would be reasonable. As we know, the professors could merely work as part-time job in certain station, since their major jobs are academic research and instruction. And there would hardly have any enterprises or industries want to hire some amateurs to operate efficiently. In addition, all faculty work in professions relevant to the courses they teach would be a difficult event for colleges and universities, there could not have such a big amount of occupations. Supposing that they could actually meet this standard, it maybe more efficient to let students to work outside rather than teachers when considering the improvement of instruction quality. However, to promote teachers’ introduction ability could be much easier, weekly or even monthly training program would works.
In conclusion, what really matters is the improvement of students’ ability of living and studying, the really efficient way is to light their way to bright future, in this case, the guidance of teacher would fairly important. Thus, the improvement of teaching methods is the improvement of instruction quality.
