A great effective leader to a nation is like a light-house to a ship in dark night, he will bring his nation to prosperous and flourish. Then what's the most vital quality for a great leader? The speaker above suggests that an effective leader should persist in particular principles instead of easily shifting his opinions. As for me, I partly agree with his idea that a great leader needs to gain the quality of ** decisions committed to particular principles, I insist, however, an excellent leader should has the competence of listening to others' ideas especially the citizens in his nation. Nevertheless, to be a qualified leader, merely the ability to remain consistently committed to particular principles and objectives is far from enough, there are many other important qualities for an effective leader.

It is of no doubt that an effective leader needs to have the capability of remaining his original decision instead of easily influenced by others. Too often, the majority of people are conservative, and what their concern most is their own current advantages which may add a serious effect to the whole society in the future. For example, after the Second Industrial Revolution, the industrial organizations developed rapidly in United Kingdom, which cause a great amount of environmental problems in the nation. The air quality decrease, the green Scotland was covered by black smokes and its capital London became a city of fog. When the leader announced to control the emotions of the carbon dioxide, he received numerous rejections from the owners of the industrial enterprise. Under such pressure, the leader did not shift his decision easily and he believed in the correctness of the decision in protecting the environment, which finally proved right and make the London today we see is as beautiful as it was hundreds of years ago. Yet sometimes, it is hard to censure over a controversial issue, especially in the reformation, in which the benefits of some people much be touched and counterviews come forth. At that time, an effective leader should have the courage to insist on his reformation, and as time passed, the people will become to acknowledge the future vision in the leader's decision.

To remain consistently committed to particular principles, however, does not mean that the leader is a dictator. That is to say, the quality to taking opinions from others is also important. Firstly, an individual's knowledge and experience are limited; hence there may be some shortcuts of his decision, therefore, it is the same important for a great leader to listen to his people's ideas. If a leader becomes autarkical, it will be a great disaster for the nation. Take China for example, the largest population of the country was result from a mistake of its former leader—Chairman Mao who refused to adopt the suggestion of the family planning to inhibit the explosive population by the great sociologist named Ma Yinchu. Therefore, an effective leader should have both the ability of remain his original objectives and listening to others' ideas at the same time.

Nevertheless, the ability to commit to his particular principles and objectives is just one of the most essential qualities of an excellent leader; and to be an effective leader, one needs to have many other excellent qualities. Such as the future and global vision, the analytical skill for masses of information and good mental qualities when faced with pressures. Without these important qualities, one cannot become a qualified leader.

In conclusion, a great leader needs not only the ability to ** right decision facing with dilemma, the persistence in particular principles and objectives, but also a modest attitude towards others opinions. Besides that, it also requires an effective leader to gain many other essential qualities such as vision towards future and a strong mind under great pressure.
