With respect to the question that why the study of history is so compelling, the answer would, probably, be that it helps us understand the world, including human beings and the environment, profoundly and recognize the nature and the hidden desire of ourselves. A part of individuals claim that, by researching history, we would make clear that there is little difference between people in one period of time and those who lived at other time in history. However, the difference actually does exist and also is significant.

Every era in history is characterized by its own features and every period of time have its own background, which both determine the distinctive characteristic, the unique life style and the overall perspective towards outside world of people living in one period.

First of all, we all know that human being`s behavior is susceptible to outside world or the overall trend of that time, which may result in distinctive characteristic. It is similar with the influence of the environment of one family and the elementary education on the formation of disposition of a child. For instance, through learning history, we know that the military-inclined country represented the overwhelming influence on its residents who possessed a more aggressive and belligerent temperament. Greece, on the contrary, thanks to placing a remarkable emphasis on its civilization, emerged numerous artists and philosophers whose works have been still enlightening modern society.

Secondly, manifold architectures and miscellaneous living instruments both indicate different life styles, which compel/ capture substantial attention of historians, in every period of time. In order to adjust outside environment which is not permanent stable, people in different time formed their own way of living. All of those life styles constitute a part of proceeding of evolvement of human beings.

Furthermore, people in different time may conceive distinct perspective towards one same affair. As our understanding of humanity and conception of harmony have been improving significantly, people`s attitudes towards assorted affairs have also gradually grew more mature, reasonable and favorable. Capital punishment, as a best illustration, which was prevailing in many countries in early time, was abolished by most countries after increasing insightful people indentified its inherent flaws-namely, we had not drawn enough attention to criminal`s basic human right. And another demonstration is that no discrimination among people is widespread accepted by most countries while before early 1900s the notion of sever class discrimination, based on family, gender and the color of skin, was rooted in most people`s mind.

Admittedly, the similarity among people in different time is considerable. After all, the fundamental nature of people and the basic morality in each civilization have not changed so much. However, the difference is so remarkable, interesting and thought-provoking that the chief benefit of history is to help people understand the diversity of history.
