Grounding on the study of two groups of patients, and supposing that secondary infections may keep some patients from healing quickly after severe muscle strain, accordingly author concludes that all patients who are diagnosed with muscle strain would be well advised to take antibiotics as part of their treatment. However, the author failed to give reasonable evidence for the supposing and to organize the study comprehensively and logically.

First, just because there is a lack of evidence does not preclude that the secondary infections may not happen to most of patients suffered with muscle strain. The author may not have considered that the secondary infections only could happen to very small group of people who injured severely at muscle. In fact, even the probability of patients with muscle strain being infected is pretty low, so the amount of patients with secondary infections might be much smaller. For example, the mild muscle strain came from fitness will be cured naturally without any medicinal treatment. Therefore, antibiotics are not indispensable for all patients with muscle strain.

Second, even if we concede that the secondary infections will happen to patients with muscle strain in fact, this does not necessarily mean that the study of two groups can prove and support the conclusion of taking antibiotics. There are many variables that can contribute to fewer recuperation time of first group. Many uncontrollable conditions in the study, such as better medical instruments can reduce the time of recuperation. In addition, better physical health of patients and milder illness will also contribute to fewer recuperation time of first group, so it is reasonable to take fewer time recover. Besides, even if these previous conditions are uniform, the first group patients who treated by doctor majoring in sports medicine will get better treatment than the second group. Therefore, although the conclusion seems reasonable at first glance, the study in fact cannot prove that antibiotics will benefit patients with muscle strain.

Finally, even if we accept the conclusion of study that antibiotics can reduce the recuperation time and the assumption of the secondary infections to patients with muscle strain, the author also fails to consider the possibility of antibiotics damaging health of patients. It is well known that too many antibiotics will induce drug resistance. For example, invalidation of antibiotics treatment will be result of too many antibiotics taken. In addition, not every patient with muscle strain should take antibiotics, for many mild injuries it is unnecessary.

Thus, to embrace and back the conclusion logically and reasonably, author need to provide more specific evidences on study to support the conclusion logically and precisely, and point out what kinds of patients with muscle strain should take antibiotics for quicker recuperation and avoiding secondary infections.
