There exists an impassioned controversy recently concerning the choice of research program. We often find ourselves involved in a dilemma whether we should reach for individual interest or social needs. As far as I am concerned, aside from the factor that we tend to pursue individual interests, a larger attention should be paid to the social needs---whether this research we are conducting will pose an positive impact on the society.

The criterion to estimate whether a research is deserving is that whether the result is consistent with the responsibility of scholars and researchers---to benefit the human as a whole and promote a better understanding of this world, efficiently and ethically. As a accountable scientist, it is beyond peradventure that more matters should be taken into consideration, social responsibility included.

Admittedly, interest is the best motivation when we conducting a research that may appears to be boring and meaningless to others. It is only the scientists themselves who can feel the beauty and delight of the research. The interest is the best teacher. Consider, for example, in the theoretical academic field, Stewen Hawking, a preeminent physics scientist, who has brought about a revolutionary breakthrough to the physical theory. He suffered from ALS(a disease that leaves him on the wheelchair) from 21 years old. However, he did never give up his interest and hold on his research of blackhole. It is the intensive interest and passion that leads him to the ultimate success. In the engineering field, Watt, an excellent engineer, interested in the phenomena that the kettle lid was impulsed by vapor, invented the steam engine and consequently, lead the whole human society into industry era. It is the power of the interest.

Yet, while we should support the research only if the researcher are interested, meanwhile we should keep our eyes peeled on the researches whose objectives are too vague and potential benefits are too dubious. After all, the research utilizing much social funds means high opportunity costs---which might be applied towards the emergency or fundamental constructions such as epidemic and education and so forth. Kaifu Lee, the vice president of Microsoft and Google, once said (and I paraphrase),"The product should be connected with the practical application." and, "Don't be concentrated in useless innovation!" Given finite resources and energy, it is more reasonable for us to pay more attention to those programs that may bring about more benefits.

Moreover, crazy research should be prohibited in that those research challenged ethics and moral values. For example, human cloning, is detrimental to the morality and ethics, so many scientists call for prohibition to human cloning and even all cloning. Although a few scientists are keen on this research, this study should be banned. In addition, some Japanese scholars devoted themselves to the research of bio-chemical weapon in World War 2, murdering thousands of innocent people and committing monstrous crime to Asian people. There is no denying that this kind of research should be banned entirely.

From what has been discussed above, we may safely draw a conclusion that we should strike a balance between individual interest and social needs. It is conceivable that we may find a program that is not only consistent with our interest and may possessing an ample potential benefits— a satisfying balance. In addition, under no circumstances can we act against the morality and ethics. In the final analysis, given finite energy and time, it is rewarding to concentrate on the useful innovation. Only through this channel can we benefit the whole human more efficiently and ethically as expatiated above.

First : The scholars and researchers should include more than scientist.
Second: the keyword is contribution in my views.

There exists an impassioned controversy recently concerning the choice of research program. We often find ourselves involved in a dilemma whether we should reach for individual interest or social needs( how about focus on individual interests or reach for social needs). As far as I am concerned, aside from the factor that we tend to pursue individual interests, a larger attention should be paid to the social needs---whether this research we are conducting will pose ->exert an positive impact on the society.

The criterion to estimate whether a research is deserving is that whether the +expected result is consistent with the responsibility of scholars and researchers---to benefit the human as a whole and promote a better understanding of this world, efficiently and ethically. As a accountable scientist -> (as I have mentioned above), it is beyond peradventure that more matters should be taken into consideration, social responsibility included.

Admittedly, interest is the best motivation when we conducting a research that may appears to be boring and meaningless to others. It is only the scientists themselves who can feel the beauty and delight of the research. The interest is the best teacher. Consider, for example, in the theoretical academic ->physical field, Stewen Hawking, a preeminent physics scientist, who has brought about a revolutionary breakthrough to the physical theory. He suffered from ALS(a disease that leaves him on the wheelchair) from 21 years old. However, he did never give up his interest and hold on his research of blackhole. It is the intensive interest and passion that leads him to the ultimate success. {+add some conj }In the engineering field, Watt, an excellent engineer, interested in the phenomena that the kettle lid was impulsed by vapor, invented the steam engine and consequently, lead the whole human society into industry era. It is the power of the interest.

Yet, while we should support the research only if the researcher are interested, meanwhile we should keep our eyes peeled on the researches whose objectives are too vague and potential benefits are too dubious. After all, the research utilizing much social funds->resources means high opportunity costs---which might be applied towards the emergency or fundamental constructions such as epidemic and education and so forth. Kaifu Lee, the vice president of Microsoft and Google, once said (and I paraphrase),"The product should be connected with the practical application." and, "Don't be concentrated in useless innovation!" Given finite resources and energy, it is more reasonable for us to pay more attention to those programs that may bring about more benefits. {do not mix us with the scholars and researchers}

Moreover, crazy research should be prohibited in that those research challenged ethics and moral values. For example, human cloning, is detrimental to the morality and ethics, so many scientists call for prohibition to human cloning and even all cloning. Although a few scientists are keen on this research, this study should be banned. 全文结尾不错,学习了。

B3的结尾不太有力;it is the power of interest that ……
B5 morality and ethic 不是一回事,而且原因也比较勉强。 个人觉得这个例子太老套了,最好能说出点新意来。

总体来说结构还是清晰的。
顺便考虑下我开头的建议吧。
