The following appeared in a newspaper feature story.
"At the small, nonprofit hospital in the town of Saluda, the average length of a patient's stay is two days;
at the large, for-profit hospital in the nearby city of Megaville, the average patient stay is six days. Also,
the cure rate among patients in the Saluda hospital is about twice that of the Megaville hospital. The
Saluda hospital has more employees per patient than the hospital in Megaville, and there are few complaints
about service at the local hospital. Such data indicate that treatment in smaller, nonprofit hospitals is more
economical and of better quality than treatment in larger, for-profit hospitals."
The arguer concludes that smaller nonprofit hospitals offer more economical and better treatment than larger, for-profit hospitals do, supported (这个supported的主语是arguer,arguer要support吗?是conclusion need support,建议改成 hospitals do on the base of average length.....) by statistics about the average length of a patient's stay, the cure rate, the average employee number per patient and patients' complaints. As it stands, I find it unsubstantial for the following logical reasons.
To start with, the author unfairly makes a comparison between a small, nonprofit hospital in Saluda and a large, for-profit hospital in Megaville without considering other factors involved. Since Megavill is a bigger city and Saluda is a smaller town, possibly, the smaller hospital has fewer patients with simpler symptoms, while the bigger one has more patients who get more complicated diseases. So the average patient's stay may differ as how terrible they are, instead of as how effectively the hospitals can treat the patients. So is the cure rate. (这里其实可以说长一点)Hence, without checking out all the elements that influence these statistics, any opinion would be invalidated.
In addition, few complaints about service of the Saluda hospital do not necessarily equate good quality of the service. As the hospital mostly serve for the residents in the town, the number of patients would be limited and thus the complains would be fewer. Or perhaps people in that town prefer to find a hospital elsewhere, rather than complaining about the local hospital. (这个理由我可没有想到,) With no without accurate evidence to compare the complaining rate among patients, or direct one towards the service, it is unconvincing to say the service of Saluda hospital is better than that of the hospital in Megaville.
Finally, even if the assumptions above are supportive , the final conclusion of the hospital is still not persuasive 这个词好,学习了. As no further information is provided to typify these two hospitals, any opinion on the basis of the comparison of the two hospitals would be useless. In all likelihood, the situations in other regions could be on the contrary. Therefore, more researches are needed to prove the characteristics of the two hospitals are just typified one.这几个词不要了,语法有错了. 这一段没有给出实质的理由
To sum up, although the writer compares the hospital in Salude and the hospital in Megavilla with statistics, it still remain to be examined whether the conclusion drawn is solid, in that no more clear details are offered to show the data's credit.
终于找得到大于3的错误了,一般是只写3个吗?拍的同学能回答下吗?
一般是写三个,其实ARGUMENT一般都有三个. |
