The author expects a continued decline of headaches suffered by citizens in Mentia, due to the large use of salicylates. It is possible the phenomena will happen, but it may result from other factors.

First of all, the author fails to consider other causes of the decline of headaches in the twenty-year study. For instance, the wide use of other chemicals in that family, or healthy lifestyles could serve as means to decline the rate of headaches too. Perhaps, because of the habits of exercising frequently, fewer residents feel headache with improved physical conditions. Therefore the causal relationship between the wide use of salicylates and the decline of headaches is unsubstantiated.

Secondly, it is one thing to find salicylates can be used as flavor additives for food, another thing to add them into foods. The addiction would come into being only if it is profitable for the companies and does little harm to health. Considering they are medicine treating headaches, probably the cost of salicylates are too high for the companies to win profit. On the other hand, taking too much salicylates might have potential dangers for their side effects. For those cases, the prospect of the use of salicylates would be not as optimistic as the author believes.

Finally, even if the assumptions mentioned above are all persuasive, whether there will be a continued steady decline of headaches remains to be seen. Presumably, the rate of headaches might be at the lowest of the history. Most of the remaining cases of headaches are genetic or neurotic, which cannot be cured by taking medicines like salicylates. If so, the rate of headaches is of little possibility to drop any more.

To conclude, while the arguer provides a study about the correlation of a steady decline of headaches and the wide use of salicyleates, together with a result found by a food-processing company, demonstrating a continued steady decline of headaches would be expected among citizens of Mentia, it is highly doubtful whether this situation would really happen.
