According to the statement of the speaker,we could only choose one from tradition and modernization for they arecontrary. However, I can't agree with his agreement. To my opinion, theconfliction between tradition and modernization is hardly to avoid in thedevelopment of human society, but we can coordinate them to have a betterresult than only maintain one of them.
To start with, both of tradition andmodernization are valuable to our society. To the tradition, it is preciousheritage from ancestors. There are so many summaries of experiences andlearning in the tradition, which are all representations of one country orethnic. As the fundament of humanity, and the source of history, they mustn’tbe ignored by contemporaries. On the other hand, modernization is a processwhich every country must face to sooner or later. Nowadays, development is acommon sense which has been accepted by more and more countries. To catch upwith the forward countries, other countries begin enact the modernization into theact, and corresponding polices have been putted in practice. So, whethertradition or modernization, they are all important elements in human society.
Furthermore, the uninterrupted creationsform the tradition and just because the breakthroughs and innovations in theprocess of uninterrupted creations human beings go to modernization.Undoubtedly, there are conflictions in the process, even they occur frequentlyfar beyond our imagination. The results of such conflictions are usually thatnew things break down the obstructs of tradition, and direct human society inthe track of modernization. In another way of saying, tradition is just thefundament of modernization at first, then the modernization becomes the basisof tradition later, they are mutual fundaments to each other.
According to every country and ethnic, tradition is its symbol and speciality, as well as the basis to modernize. Ifwe discard tradition in the process of modernization, the aftermath will beunimaginable. After all, tradition usually represents the advantage of onecountry, providing ignored by people, which will be an unevaluated loss. Forexample, Japanbecame stronger than before since the Meiji Restoration. Although after that, Japan has beenas a modernization nation, but it reserved many traditions at the same time.Such as the ethnic spirit, attitude to work, which are the motives that prompt Japanto be an economical giant. To such traditions, we should herit and develop them.
In addition, if people want to keep theirtraditions and reject the modernization, it's not a good strategic to thedevelopment of society. As we know, the social progress is a process ofbreaking old obstacle and building new order, so if everyone follows traditionsonly, there will be no modernization. Modern world is established at the basisof tradition society, but to be modernization, irrational traditions should bebroken up and develop new social framework to replace the old one.
In summarize, to keep the speciality in thedevelopment of society, we should seek a balance between tradition andmodernization. Rational tradition can be helpful for the progress of oursociety, because it can develop the speciality of specific countries. Butprogress needs not only the effect of tradition, but also the activities toprompt the modernization. A throughout consideration between them can helppeople to make a decision. The real need of our society is a comprehensiveresult, even a compromise, but not the extreme opinion that just one choicebetween tradition and modernization. |
