As we all know, a greatest country consists not only great artists, scientists or its rulers, but also the public in majorities. But is it the welfare of all the people rather than the great individuals that is the indicator of the great nation, as the speaker asserts? In my opinion, to some extent, certain great individuals who are regarded as the heroes of the nation are able to be the indicator of it. However, the welfare of the public is also of much importance. Balanced view should we take upon the issue.
When referring to a certain great country, what comes to our mind first is the heroes including great artists, scientists or its rulers, and they truly manifest different aspects of one nation's characteristics. One apt illustration involves Bill Gates, the world's wealthiest man ever, who represents the richness and affluence of America as the first impression to the people across the world. Another example like Da Vinci, who is considered as the greatest artist in the era of renaissance, along with his famous painting Mona Lisa, throw profound influence on the world's art, and regard as the indicator of Italy even the whole European. Also, Genghis khan, the ruler of ancient China, first evaded across the continent of Asia and European, manifests the strength and power of ancient China. As what have shown above, certain great individuals are indeed the indicators of a nation in some aspects. After all, most people know about a nation through certain individuals of it.
Simultaneously, we cannot emphasize the importance of the welfare of the public too much. Due to the property of most nations, the power of nation belongs to its entire people, and democracy should be attained. Welfare is also a method the nation uses to share the development with the public, which contributes to the harmony of different classes of the nation. In addition, moderate welfare spurs the motivation of the people in work. Always work and no welfare as the compensation, the public in majorities will no longer work hard or even lead to public unrest. Nowadays, many demonstrations carried on by the citizens are mainly aiming at fighting for better welfare.
Admittedly, the conflict between the welfare of the public and the benefit of certain great individuals is sometimes confusing. Further consideration suggests that, balanced measures should be taken into account. Experience in history edifies us to take the Soviet, which collapsed long time ago, for instance. The nation once was strong one with powerful militaries as well as weapons, and famous for the tenacity and toughness of its rulers. Nevertheless, the welfare of its people was fairly poor; lots of people were starving to death. By contrast, in some European countries such as Swiss and Norway, people are always enjoying the high welfare of the nation. Although they have no great rulers or scientists, they without doubt live a cozy life. Therefore, there is no strict limitation of how good the public welfare, balanced measures are needed in accordance to the reality of the nation.
In conclusion, a great nation is established by the great individuals and its entire people together, which are all the indicators of it. However, what we should pay attention to is the balance between them. Only by solving this issue, can we raise the satisfaction of the public as well as the certain individuals, thus better manifesting the reality of one nation. |
